Question about EASY
« on: February 25, 2009, 19:00:16 pm »
My 15 week old daughter is on a 3.5 hour EASY, sometimes 3 hour EASY.  She follows EASY pretty well, except with her short naps so her EASY would be EASASE.  Anyways, lately she has been wanting to eat a few more ounces before sleep. Is fine if she eats when she wakes then a few ounces before she sleeps?

It depends on how long it's been since she last fed, ideally she would nap first. If you feed too often she'll start snacking and stop taking decent feeds iykwim? At 15 weeks she should be able to go 3 hrs.

I agree you want to aim for your lo to eat, and then have some A time before nap.  However at 4 months they do go through growth spurt.

Can you post what your routine looks like so that we can help you tweak?

Here is a good day:
Lately, she would want a little snack right before sleep(usually an ounce).  How would I get her to have a full feed followed by an activity.  It generally, takes her a good 30-40minutes to finish the bottle.  She likes to play a lot during feeds ::) Do you think she is using the bottle to pacify as I recently weaned her from the pacifier?

wakes up at 6:30am but falls asleep until 8-8:15am.
E-8:30 5-6ozs
A 140minutes
S-around 10am(incorporate W2S here)

E-12pm 5-6ozs
A-150minutes
S-around 2pm(if she wakes up at the 45 minute mark, I try to extend her nap)

E-3:30pm 5-6ozs
A-135-150minutes(depending on her nap time. I always reduce her activity if she short naps)
S-around 5pm(45 minutes)

E-6pm (3ozs)
A-1hr-130minutes (a bath, plays with dad)
E-in her room (3-4ozs)
S-7:15-7:30

DF 9:30pm (3-4ozs)

E-1-1:30am(5-6oz)
E-5-6am(3ozs)

When she short naps and I cannot extend them, I will do a quiet acivity, then back to sleepl

Thanks

I think she might be using the bottle for comfort  :-\  And 1oz is really a little.  I think if she were genuinely hungry she would take more than that.  What happens if you don't give the feed before nap?

So, I didn't give her the bottle for her last nap and she went down smoothly. Crossing my fingers. :P

I agree with pp, if she can take 6 oz at a feed, then she takes 1 oz she isn't hungry. Feeding may well calm her before sleep but it isn't something to encouraged. Of course a hungry baby must be fed however you are doing right not to feed before a sleep if you can help it.

What size teat are you using on the bottle?  Do you think that your lo could be ready for the next stage up?  At this age, she should be taking less time to feed.

I am currently using the Avent nipple 3+. When she drinks, it comes out of the side of her mouth.  At night, she can drink a full 5 ounces in less then 10 minutes.  This afternoon's feeding took me over an hour.  She kept looking around, playing and biting the nipple.  :-\

Good point Paula.  At one point I had to remove all the soft toys from the shelves because she kept smiling at them instead of feeding  ::)

So today's feeds had a little success.  I got her to drink 4ozs within a half hour. I have noticied, that sometimes she doesn't seem hungry enough at the 3.5 hour mark. Is it fine to push her feed a little later? I know she won't handle a 4hour EASY yet.
