Question on EASY
« on: February 25, 2009, 19:09:48 pm »
I have a question about EASY. Can anyone give me a guideline for a 3 month old? I am struggling to sort out when the first feeding should be and the last. I need to figure out how many feedings Ava should be getting as her waking up for night feeds may be a sign of hunger. Thanks so much  :)

Hi there,

There are sample routines on the faq section of the EASY board (sorry don't know how to do link! :-[).

There is no 'should' really for 1st feeding of the day, if your baby wakes at 6 and you want to start the day then thats ok or if you'd rather start the day at say 8 you can treat all wakings before that as nw and start the day then.....hope that makes sense. The thing to remember is that you should aim for a 12 hour day so if you start at 7am you should aim for a 7/7.30pm bedtime iykwim?

I think that a 3 hour EASY is suited to a 3 month old to enable you to get the calories in during the day to try and reduce nw and then nearer 4 months you would transition to a 4 hour. Check out the sample schedules and see what you think.

Thanks so much! That is helpful! I will follow the 7am-7pm for example. I have to figure out what is causing her to wake for night feedings. Its on my mind so much that I even dreamt about it last night  :-\ Last night for example, she went down at 6:30, woke up to feed at 10:30 (took half of her usual 4-5 oz and feel into a deep sleep), again at 2:30 (fed almost 5 oz) and 5am (but this she fed for a short time and fell asleep in my arms. I seem to have so little time to search this site and there is so much info its incredible. I will search that now, thank you! Can I ask what nw means? Is it night waking?  :-[ I just want so much to sleep a full night and know that she is getting the sleep that she so needs....

Hi,

Yes nw means night waking.  ;) I try to aim for a 7am start but lately my LO has been getting up nearer the 6am mark so I just start the day then instead. I don't think its unusual for a 3 month old to be still waking twice at night but if she had been sleeping through previously could it be growth spurt?

Can you post what your day currently looks like so that we can see if there is a pattern of Over Tireness or Under Tiredness?

E
A - how long
S - how long including wind down time.

Hello  :)

I think I have figured out with help from the others in the naps section that my lo is overtired! I was not counting feedings in A time so if we woke up at 9am and she ate at 9:30 I would start counting the A time at 9:30 plus I was not giving her enough wind down time. We are still shaky and have 30-45 min naps but she is going down almost without a fight unlike before. We are trying to cut down her A time to an hour or hour and 15 and that seems to be helping. She feeds every 3 hours and takes 4 oz. sometimes 5. She nw though. Last night she went down at 7pm, woke up at 10pm as I was getting ready to give her the DF for the first time, woke again at 2pm and then 5pm. Each time she seems very hungry and finishes her bottles. At 5am though, I sh/pat her ans she gave me another hour so she ate at 6am, ate 5 oz. and slept til 7:30am. This has beed our day so far  ::) ::)

All A time includes the whole time that your lo is awake.

I am pleased that your lo is going down better for naps.

With regards to the NW's it is not uncommon for lo's still to wake twice in the night after the DF.  However, as your lo starts to nap longer in the day, you may find that the night starts to get longer.

Yes, well the naps were going well. Today was a nightmare. I went out for 2 hours and she refused to nap. She fought be both times that I tried for over an hour. I may have got 15 min in that was all. I could see she was ot for sure but she would not stop fighting and got the better of me. I did try twice and I got the same result so I let her stay in the crib. She laughedd and smiled ay everything in the room for about 20 min and that was our day. She is sleeping now but that was not easy either...whew what a day!!!!
