7 week old not hungry after 3 hours
« on: February 27, 2009, 15:16:26 pm »
Hi, am fairly new to the BW but have had some success so far with sorting out one OT baby but now an having problems with her feeding, the ladies on the EASY forum thought you may be able to help?

My dd is 7 weeks old and weighs 10 nearly 11lb, she is formula fed having slowly changed in the last fornight from EBM.

The problem I am having is that she is just not interested in eating after 3 hours and never wakes crying for feeds except in the night.

Here was yesterdays EASY:

E - 6.30 3oz (forced 3rd oz)
A
S - 7.30

E - 9.30 3oz (forced 2nd and 3rd oz over an hour)
A
S - On and off from 10.30 as we were having photos done

E - 12.30 3oz (forced 3rd oz)
A
S - 1.00

E - 4.00 5oz (see the diff that extra 30 mins makes)
A
S - 5.00

E - 6.00 2oz
A
S - 6.30

E - 7.30 3oz (eating on and off for an hour)
A - None
S - 8.30

E - 1.30 4oz
A - None
S - 2.15

Woke her up at 7.30.

Today is even worse so far

E - 7.30 4oz
A
S - 8.30

E - 10.30 3oz (Had to wake for feed and force 3rd oz)
A
S - 11.45

E - 2.00 2oz (Hardly woke for feed and a real struugle to get her to take anything)
A
S - 2.00 (Hardly woke up and is still asleep now - 3.15)

I had her weighed yesterday as was worried she wasn't eating enough but she had gained 7oz so not worried aboiut that anymore, more worried about her NW as she has been sleeping really well.

Any advice???

Hello!!  What size teat are you currently using?  Your lo could be ready for the next size up?

Medium flow, only moved 2 weeks ago because she was falling asleep on the bottle with slow flow.

She doesn't ever seem to want to eat so not sure if the teat is the problem, am so surprised that she is still asleep!! She is downstairs with me in her bouncy chair as I didn't want her to sleep, she just is. It is impossible to keep her awake when she wants to sleep.
Am worrying that we will be up all night :0(

Breastfed my ds so this is a whole new world for me!!! He would also eat as much as we would give him so sometimes I worry that I am worrying for nothing lol!

So how often is she waking at night?  It is pretty typical to need to eat at least 2x at night at this age.

This is where I seem really greedy, she only wakes once between when she goes down (normally before 9) and when she gets up, which is approx 12 hours later (if she goes down at 8pm she will get up at 8am given the chance).

She has been doing this since she was 4 weeks at at the moment it doesn't seem to make a difference how much she eats during the day she still only gets up once, also she doesn't have a dream feed. I tried to DF for over a week but she just doesn't want it.

So are you trying to get her to skip the overnight feed?  Sorry  :-[ :-[ did not follow your other thread so not sure what the problem is??  Is it her not wanting to eat every three hours?

Yes, I feel like I am force feeding her every 3 hours when she just doesn't want it. If she oversleeps her feed to 3.5 - 4 hours she feeds much better but then her naps go off and she ends up OT.
