can someone have a look at this routine plse?
« on: March 03, 2009, 23:04:45 pm »
Hello,

Im wanting to bring clustering into my routine as i think maybe Caleb isnt getting enough feeds during the day, he doesnt seem to be finishing his bottles off but is waking in the nights for a feed or sometimes even two.

Here is how i think it might go (based on his current routine):

3 hour EASY:

Awake 7.15am
E: 7.30
A:
S: 8.30 (1.5-2 hr nap)

E: 10.30
A:
S: 11.30 (1.5-2 hr nap)

E: 1.30
A:
S: 2.30 (1.5-2 hr nap)

E: 4.30 feed
A:
S: 5.30 – 6.15: catnap (approx 45 mins) to get baby through the next feed and bath (cluster feed)

E: 6.30pm (cluster feed)
A: bath
S: 7.30 bedtime
E: 8.30 (cluster feed)

E: 10.30 dream feed

Also my son is 6 weeks 4days old, should i not bother with a cluster feed if i have to drop it in a few weeks?

and how long does it take for the cluster feed to take effect on the night wakings?

You could definitely try the Cluster Feed, however, it is not unusual for a 6 week old to feed 2x in the night along with a dream feed!  What is your lo's current routine?

Its pretty much the same but slightly different in the evening:

Awake 7.15
E: 7.30
A: 8
S: 8.30 (1.5-2 hr nap)

E: 10.30
A: 11.00
S: 11.30 (1.5-2 hr nap)

E: 1.30
A: 2.00
S: 2.30 (1.5-2 hr nap)

E: 4.30 feed
A:
S: 5.30 to 6.20 catnap

E: 6.30
A: Bath
S: 7.30 bedtime

We were doing that part like this until yesterday:
A: Bath 6.30
E: 6.50
S:7.15-7.30

but tried swapping the bath and feed around and it seems to be ok

E: 10.30 dreamfeed

But then wakes up anywhere from 1am-3am and then again from 4.30am - 6.30am sometimes more than a few times. Hes already having 6 feeds during the day and if he has two at night that brings it up to 8.
On the formula container it says he should be having 5 bottles a day, i know its only a guideline but to have 3 more than the recommended amount seems like alot.

When i gave him a feed at 8.30 last night he only took about 40mls and then at the dreamfeed he took around 80mls which made me feel like it was a waste of preparing an extra bottle, using extra formula etc then he still wanted a feed around 2.30am anyway. I want him to have a good nights sleep so I do want to try it, perhaps i should persevere for another two nights and see how it goes.
