What do I do with the extra 30mins?
« on: March 04, 2009, 03:56:43 am »
Hi there, just wondering if anyone can help me tweak the routine a little?

lo is 8 weeks old, and been on EASY since birth. Her typical feed times are 7, 10-11, 1-2, 4.30, 6.30 and df at 11. She can do as many as seven hours at night, (as of monday, hooray!). Apart from some VERY erratic short napping last week, she generally naps well for about 1.5 hours plus a catnap in the arvo. She is and always has been an extremely fast feeder (10mins usually, and only one side), but is gaining wait steadily, and doesn't get hungry before 3 hours. With A times I try to go with her cues (but truth be told i'm guessing, don't know them at all yet). I think she's pretty touchy, and any more than an hour of awake time, she's a mess. During the awake time, she's pretty mellow, just has a bit of a kick with no nappy on, maybe some tummy time and a bit of a cuddle.

Here comes my question: If I start the four Ss at the one hour mark, and she sleeps for 1.5 hours (which is a pretty good effort and seems to be enough), there are still 30mins till the next feed. If I get her up till the three hours are over, she's overtired by the time the next nap comes. I dont think its a case of going back to 2.5 hour Easy, as she's been a three hour girl since birth. We never had a problem before as she would nap the whole 2-2.5 hours. It might have something to do with the short feeding time I guess. But what should I do?

It is not uncommon for a lo to have a bit of A time after a nap before the next feed routine.  At this age they can do E A S A E A S etc.

If you are winding your lo down for a nap at around the 1 hour mark, and it takes your lo about 5 - 10 mins to fall asleep and then sleeps for 1.5 hours, this should probably leave about 20 mins or so before next feed.

When your lo is able to handle a little more A time and is able to stay awake for 1.25 hours or so, you may find that this does not cause such a problem.

Hope this helps.

This is EXACTLY my situation!! To the tee! Age, temperament, except for the fact that my babe does not sleep that wonderful a stretch at night yet.  The longest I've had is 4 hours 45 min.
