My mistake, help, how do I correct it! (1 year old)
« on: March 09, 2009, 21:46:43 pm »
My little girl is almost 1 years old and I have to admit I've gotten into a very bad habit with her lately (past month).

She woke one morning at 4am and despite my best efforts she just couldn't get back to sleep (but was obviously tired), as a last resort I brought her in bed with me and she went straight off to sleep.... fast forward a month and this seems to be becoming a more regular thing.

She was waking at 4 / 5am and coming in bed for us for 1 hour ish (we get up at 6.30am), although the past couple of days she's woken at midnight and refused to go back in her own bed.

I know I have completely made this situation myself, however I really want to sort it out ASAP as I do think she should sleep in her own bed ALL night.

Help, I don't know where to start?!

xx

Newbiemum22 - I went through something similar. I did the walkin/walkout method. It does work and it takes time. So hang in there. There is no magic formula. You just have to be consistent and firm. Try not to cave.

Dree  ;)

p.s Take a deep breath when you walk out of her room and count a few seconds (cause she will be crying, she misses her mommy) then go back in to reassure her that you are nearby.

Sending you GOOD LUCK vibes  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks so much, luckily enough last night she slept through all by herself until 6.00am!

I'm getting ready for tonight, 2 nights in a row would be a miracle! :)

Hi - thanks for the follow up and sorry for the delay in replying.

I have to say that I think she's almost resolved it herself somehow, so I can't take any credit for it! Just seemed to re-align by itself so she goes to bed at about 7.30pm and wakes about 6.30 / 7.00am.

There has been the odd night when she wakes at 4am and sometimes wont settle.

I think she has started to have the odd nightmare as she'll suddenly wake up crying / wimpering, without opening her eyes - so instead of picking her up I just rub her tummy and talk really gently to her and this (for the minute) seems to help.

Thanks again for the follow up - really appreciate it

x
