Does any of your lo's share a bed?
« on: March 16, 2009, 00:40:06 am »
Hello!  Here is our situation.

Tyler is 18 months old now.  He has slept fine in his crib, we rock him put him down, he goes to sleep.  BUT, he wakes up around 3:00 in the night and then about 5:30/6:00 for the day.

Zach is 3.5 yrs old and he sleeps fine in his own bed, or sometimes with us as  a special treat.

We went and visited my mom this weekend and she had them both sleeping in her bed together.  Well...........  Let me put it this way, I sware we thought she gave them something because they were so sound to sleep.  She would go in there, turn on the light, talk, they never woke up and they slept until almost 8:00 in the morning:-0

I sware DH and I think we are doing something wrong.

So tonight, I moved Zach's full size bed into Tyler's room - took out the crib and put them to sleep in the bed.  Tyler of course SCREAMED for me, so DH layed down with them and Tyler was asleep in 15 minutes.

So I was wondering if anyone else does this and the outcome or what we are just doing wrong.

Have you though about just getting him his own bed? I have read a few posts on here about their LO's hating the cot and once they moved them to a bed slept so much better.
Did you move him to 1 nap now?

Yeah that was my next step.  His own bed. He hated his toddler bed, because it is the same size of his crib.

Yes, He is on 1 nap a day from about 12:00 to 1:30/2:00.  Bedtime is 7:00/7:30.

So If I got him his own bed or just kept that bed in there and got Zach another bed, how would I transition?

Do I have to lay with him every night until he falls asleep?  I know he would scream and cry and get up if I did not lay with him.

Perhaps use GW instead of sitting with him otherwise you will probably create a prop.

Hey - any chance you could get a small double and just let them share it? My sister and brother and I all shared a room until my little brother was about 4 or 5 yrs old. We regularly jumped into each other's beds and snuggled in and it worked out great for us.

I am all for sibling co-sleeping if it works for the kiddos.

The room is big enough for 2 beds, but it is a Full Size bed so it is plenty big for the both of them.

I don't think it is going to work though for Tyler right now, maybe in another 6 months.

But last night he did sleep a lot better, woke up at 5:00 - Hubby layed down with him and they did not wake until 8:00.

Of course now Zach is in our bed, BUT he will lay in there by himself and go to sleep and sleeps really good.

Once things get better here (money wise), I am going to get Zach a new bed with a bed tent on it, and maybe even re-do his entire bedroom so he will be excited about it.

Whatever works is all I care about right now, just a good night sleep.

I know what you mean - a good night's sleep is *always* a priority! Yeah, when we have some more money I would like to re-do Katie's entire bedroom..... whenever that will be!

Glad that you got a better night last night and good DH for lying down with Tyler. Ah well re Zach being in your bed - I don't mind if Katie climbs in if she doesn't wake me or doesn't talk on and on and on in her sleep - lol!

Hope things continue to improve for you, even if non-conventionally and slowly.
