14 months & switched to 1 nap ... waking after 40 mins!!
« on: March 16, 2009, 01:41:47 am »
Hi there,
My DS is 14.5 months and I have just switched to one nap per day (a few days ago), as he was not going down well for his 2 naps and sometimes wasn't sleeping at the 4 pm nap at all.  But for the last couple of days he has woken after 40 mins - much to my disgust (I was hoping I would have 2.5-3 hours to myself!).  His routine before the switch was this:

8 am wake - breakfast, A
11 am sleep
1pm wake - lunch, A
4 pm 40 minute nap
6 pm dinner - bath
7.30 bedtime

Now I am trying this:

8 am wake - breakfast, A
12 pm lunch
1 pm sleep
6pm dinner - bath, etc
7.00 bed

Any idea why he is waking so soon after I put him down.  As you can see, he used to enjoy 2 hours each morning and sometimes I would even have to go in and wake him for his lunch.

Thanks any advice would be most useful.
Sarah

Hi there, Could the 1pm be too late so he is over tired? Have you tried gradually moving up his morning nap time from 11am? You might want to do 11:30 and 12:00 nap times, let him sleep and do an earlier bed time for now.

Hi - yes thanks for that.  When I went out for a walk today he naturally fell to sleep at 11.45, so perhaps I will try that.  But then what do you recommend I do about lunch - very early lunch or late lunch when he wakes?  Also, should I just leave him to sleep until he wakes himself?  Thanks for your advice ...
