how old is too old for a crib?
« on: March 20, 2009, 03:51:21 am »
hi my 2 yo (2.5 yo end of april) still sleeping well in his crib. he has climbed out of it but this has not happened in a while and it is rare - only if he is really, really upset about something.  he still naps, etc. there is no really good reason to move him out but....

we are *thinking* about getting pregnant this summer and he is also going to start preschool in the fall.  so obviously, i will need the crib next spring if things work out and i get preggars.  more than likely, i will keep his room a nursery and move him out. that seems the easiest (?).

so when do you think is a good time to make a transition? this summer before he starts preschool?

i know this is way in advance but time is flying by!

I actually changed my sons cot into the cot bed about the age of your son. Felt he was old enough to be in the bed. I always think it is best to not do too many changes at once so if you think he would cope well in a bed before pre school do it a little before then. That way he is also very used to sleeping that way and perhaps won't feel like he has been pushed out of his cot when the new baby comes. He is already out of it if that makes sense!  Thats what I would do anyway!

I agree with not to many changes at once.  try to space them out a bit.  but I don't think there is a "right" time to do things.  I think it all depends on you and your child.  if you feel the time is right and you are ready to do the work them do it!  if not then try to plan yourself so you are ready when you need to.
we transitioned early because we needed the crib.
