slow morning feed...what's changed?
« on: March 20, 2009, 04:08:37 am »
My 13 wk. old DS is usually down for the night around 8p.m. with a DF at 10:30 he wakes anywhere from 4:30-7:30a.m.  He does no less than 5.5 hours and has slept 8.5 twice.  I'm finding that his morning feed at 7:45/8 is getting shorter and slower.  He doesn't seem very hungry.  I then usually feed him around 10:30a.m. at which point he takes a good feed.   He eats A LOT at bedtime (usually draining both breasts twice), has  a moderate DF and night feed.  I'm wondering if he's getting too much b/w 8 and 8 and that's why he's not eating well in the morning.  I know he can do more than 5.5 hours.  Even when his 4:30a.m. feed is three or more hours from his morning feed he still doesn't eat well at 8.  Any suggestions?  I don't want to chance feeding him for a shorter time in the middle of the night as I don't want another wake-up before morning.  The only thing that has changed is he seems to want to eat more at bedtime rather than at DF.

Do you know my lo is exactly the same with that 8am feed. I cant remember when it started but it hasn't changed since then. I bf and when he wakes up (usually between 730 and 8) he nurses for less than five minutes (every other feed is between 10 and 20 minutes). then he's up, wanting to play. However i guess my lo has an advantage in that i then feed him his cereal. But he'll still go down for a good morning nap and not feed for another 3 or 4 hours.
Im just trying to remember back to when this started and i know for sure it was before he started eating solids, maybe around 3 months old???
I guess if you are worried, you could let him get up, have a little play time and then try again ???
