9week old NW
« on: March 20, 2009, 19:41:13 pm »
I am having a similar but different issue and was wondering if you could help, Natalie. My DD is 9wks old. We have only been doing EASY this week but the issue I have has been going on longer than that. She does great with going down for her naps and initial bedtime (about 6pm), but in the middle of the night from about 1 to 5 she is up every 45 to 75 minutes. Nothing my husband or I do seems to console her. I have tried nursing, paci, shh/pat, pu/pd, and even rocking. Nothing seems to work. My husband and I are so exhausted. I dont think she is OT because she is getting plenty of naps throughout the day. Any suggestions?

Could you post your daily routine in the
E
A
S
format.  It is helpful to see the whole day to see if things need to be tweaked:)

This was our schedule for that day.

E 0650-0730
S 0730-0930
E 1000-1020
A 1020-1050
S 1050-1300
E 1305-1330
A 1330 1400
S 1400-1500
E 1500-1520
S 1520-1650
A 1650-1730 bath, massage, was very tired, yawning and fussy
E 1730-1745
S 1805-1950
E 2000-2030
S 2030-2250
E 2250-2305 ate only on one side, was drowsy 5min in so put her back to bed
S 2305-2335
E 2335-0000 woke crying, couldnt console w/paci, shh/pat, breast again, drowsy after 10min
S 0000-0045 woke up crying, wouldnt take paci, picked up
S 0100-0145 woke crying again, hard to console
S 0200-0220 woke crying, hard to console, offered breast
E 0220-0240 ate well
S 0240-0540 put her to sleep in her carseat and took her to our bedroom
E 0540-0610
S 0620-0900
My DH and I were so tired we finally just put her in her carseat instead of her crib so we could at least keep from getting out of bed every time she woke up. We were both exhausted and upset from trying to console her without any luck. I think she may need another activity time before bed, because she seems to sleep too much. Any help you could give would be great. Thanks!!

Is it common for you to put her in her car seat?  Does she sleep better in there?  Could it be possible she has reflux?
Take a look at this link and see if anything seems like your situation.

I dont ever put her in her carseat. We were just so tired we thought it would be easier to have her in our room instead of having to get up and go across the house. It allowed us to get to her quicker and decrease how worked up she got. I dont think reflux is the issue because she has no problem going down for naps during the day or going down for her initial bedtime. She is actually a pretty good sleeper except for the middle of the night hours. She occasionally spits up but it is usually right after a feeding and it doesnt seem to bother her. Is it possible her bedtime is just too early and she needs another activity period before going down?

My next suggestion was going to be undertired.  She may need the extra time to tire herself out a little more.  When increasing A times you need to do them slowly so you don't get and OT baby.  Try 15min at a time, wait a couple days and then 15min more.
