Moving with 14 month old
« on: March 23, 2009, 15:07:09 pm »
I'm sure I'm posting this in the wrong place but I couldn't find anything related to relocating!  :-\

We're moving from our current home to an apartment three miles away.  We have to be out by the first and already have the keys to the new place so we've been moving things in slowly.  I've brought DD (14 months) to the new place along with some of her toys so that she can get used to it but I'm still concerned with her adjusting.  On the final moving day when we take all the furniture over I intend to set up her crib first so that she can take her nap in her new room and I hope to have her room fully decorated and functional by the end of this week.

I'm wondering if anyone has some advice for making the transition any smoother.  All advice and experience is much appreciated.

Thank you,
Kristen

Hi kristen,

I knwo it seems harder but your LO will probably find it easiest to move , muuch easie rthan you,

I think yoru plan is perefect and makes sense, i'd also take her along when you are moving stuff so she can explore around while you are putting stuff away and get use dto the place.

We move form our home in London to a temp apartment and then to the US when DS was 16 months old and it was somooth as butter!! For him it was all an adventure.

hugs
9 and 6, oh boy!

Try not to worry about it!  We moved a few months ago, my lo was 20 months at the time.  He asjusted just fine.  I put his crib in his new room along the same wall/same side it was in his old room.  The door is behind him now (used to be in front) but it suprisinlgy doesn't bother him at all.  Just stay consistant with your routines and it'll be fine!!

You seem to be doing all the things I would have suggested...we moved a good while ago and dd adjusted no problem. Did try to set up her room to look just like her old room..that was easy as the room was so similar...moved again and couldn't make it exactly like it but as close as poss and again she settled no problem. I think if you do as pp said and stick to aall the routines that you had before it will make the move as easy as possible.
Good luck wihtt he move.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

We've moved the majority of her stuff to her new room and are still staying at the old place. As a result, she's been waking up crying in the middle of the night lately. I think maybe it's because her room doesn't look familiar anymore? Or maybe she's making sure we're still here and didn't leave her behind?
