 Thats great news keren!

I think alot of bubs with feeding probs get on better with thickened formulas , i know mine does. The zantac has probably helped heaps too.

As for the paci issue, have you thought about weaning it? we did and never looked back.

Hi Emma...

I would LOVE to wean him! But how? ::)
I actually got the email about your reply while I was reading the sleep interview, and after that I'll try to see if there's anything about it in the FAQ...

But I would really appreciate it if you'd tell me how you did it....

Thanks   :)

 Hi keren

We went cold turkey BUT I didn't throw them away so caved after 3 days. I then threw them all away and started over. I used alot of accidental parenting to get ds to sleep (car rides and rocking) and I also introduced a lovey at the same time. I started laying him on his side wedged in with towels to help him self soothe better and after about day 4 (2nd time around!) things drastically improved. i used to love giving it to him though, that glazed look when you pop it in their mouth is priceless!  :D

If you do decide to wean pop over to the props boards, the ladies are great and will help you through it. You have to expect a bit of OT while doing it and things might be horrible for a little while but once you have done it you wont look back, I promise.

O.K .. So....

I put him in bad in 17:30, for a short nap (he goes to sleep at 19:20-30 ) and after reading A LOT about paci stuff in the props board, I put him swaddled, on the side, with the paci, and after a minute, when he stopped sucking, I took it out... the first time - he cried, the second.... he kept on sleeping till now (30 minutes ....) I set there for 20 minutes to make sure he won't wake up... I have to say that he kind of skips the first stage... Most of the time he would immediately close his eyes... so that's why I'm waiting for a minute and not waiting for the second stage....

He started crying as I'm writing this post… so I gave him the paci, and took it out just as described in that post I read (http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=2361.0)   and again, as it said, I did it over and over again, but he's suppose to wake up in a few minutes so I gave up for this time, and when I'll put him to bed in 19:30' I'll try and try until he'll fall a sleep... He didn't *always* slept with the paci... Only during the day... Because we used to let him fall asleep in my hands while (no rocking ...)... I was really afraid he won't go to sleep without this night routine (bottle and then a staying on me  ... he's not falling asleep on the bottle) but maybe because also, during the day I put him awake in bed... And he falls asleep alone, it was pretty easy and he fell asleep quickly and slept pretty well considering it was his first night out of our bed + out of our room!

I hope it'll work... I think I just don't want him to use the paci to fall asleep but I don't care if he'd use it to sooth himself.....

I'm afraid I don't know much about gradual weaning...we went cold turkey. I just dont have the patience for it!!! ::)

I do think that you haver to either have it or not iykwim? Otherwise it will just confuse him in the longrun. He wont understand that he can have it sometimes and not others. I hope that makes sense.

HO GOD!!!

I just had the most terrible 40 minutes I've had in a long time :(
After the shower and the bottle, I thought I could skip the part where I wait and then take the paci out, and put him in bed without a paci at all... Well... a nightmare of p.u/p.d began… He screamed so bad I thought I'll go deaf! But as I picked him up he calmed down right away... So I put him down after less than 10 seconds... and again and again and again for the last 40 minutes... He wouldn't calm down in the crib... I tried everything.... I'm not even sure that's the way to do it… because it feels like he fell asleep just because he was exhausted.

I really hope that that's it for this night, but I doubt it....

Thank you so much for supporting me… Nobody I know understands me, everyone thinks it's crazy to take the paci away from a 3 months old baby….

HUgs Hun. Sorry you had a rough time there.

Tracey says that 3 mos could be too young for pu/pd as it can be too stimulating for them so perhaps thats why he was getting so worked up.  ???

3 mos is not too young for taking away the paci, I took Brodie's away at 10 weeks! I understand if you feel mean as you know they like it, I felt really mean at first but now he sleeps so much better without it. I really think I did him a favour by taking it away.

I am no expert on these things but have been through it and will always lend an ear if you need it. Keep going with it and don't give in.

Pour yourself a nice glass of wine or a big mug of tea  and have a wee bit of time to yourself, you deserve it after today.  :-* :-* :-*

I actually read everything about p.u/p.d in her books + here, and she wrote its ok in 3 months, but it's a bit different.. SO I did it the way she described in her pink book.. (i'm not sure it looks the same ... )....

I'll do that thanx :)

Hi just wanted to but in and say stick with the dummy weaning. It was tough for us too but so worth it. I used pupd for ds when he was 4months and it was still too stimulating. Give it a try by all means but if you find it is taking longer rather than less time then maybe try something else. I found settling him in his cot easier (shushing and stroking his head) I only picked up if he got really upset.
