Night Wakings 3 Months old
« on: March 26, 2009, 23:17:30 pm »
I have a son who is 3/3 months old.  Unless he is swaddled he will wake himself up at night in the crib.  So we swaddle with the miracle blanket. Still he wakes up early sometimes just 2hrs after he is fed at 3am.  Then he will take small naps during the day but they are getting shorter and shorter.  We really play with him while he is up to get him tired, and we have tried not doing that, however during the day with no swaddle he will not sleep unless in the swing.  Now we can get him down in teh crib, but 10 min goes by and he is awake again crying.  I am not sure what to do, I cannot swaddle him all the time, he has to keep the use of his arms, LOLOL.  But I hate having 2 places he sleeps, I think that may also be a problem.

Awake 6:30 (usually pooping, but wont get himself back to sleep)
we get him at 7am-before the screaming
Play 30m
Eat (4oz bottle of formula and rice cereal) 20m
play 30
finish formula (another 1oz) and quiet time15-20m
9amish-9:30 Sleep
Awake 30m later, get him back to sleep 10m
Awake 10:20ish, get him back to sleep with pacifier (I hate this) 10:25
Awake 11:30
Play 30m
Eat 20m (4oz bottle of formula and rice cereal)
play 30ish
Finish formula (another 1oz) and quiet time15m
Sleep about 1pm
Awake 3pm
play 1hr
Eat 25m (4oz bottle of formula and rice cereal) -sometimes he skips this he just isnt hungry
play 1hr
Finish formula and quiet time25m
sleep around 6p-6:30 depending on day
we wake him at 9:30 to eat for night, change diaper, etc (5oz of formula and rice cereal)
sleep 10:30 swaddled
sleep (we hear him waking 2-3 times and have to go over and put our hands on him for him to stop fighting swaddle with feet)
awake 2:30-3am
Eat, diaper, eat, swaddle 1hr(but sometimes he doesnt want to go back down) (5oz bottle of formula and rice cereal)
Sleep-if we can get him back to sleep around an hour after he wakes. and sometimes we have to put him in the swing or in our bed to get him to go back to sleep
4-6 unrestful sleep (we hear him waking and have to go over and put our hands on him for him to stop fighting swaddle with feet)

by the morning we are really tired!  I wish we didnt have to swaddle but I dont know how he will stay still, even with the swaddle he ends up at the other end of the crib.  The only place he remains relitively still is the cradle swing, but hate to leave him sitting all the time or swinging!

He isnt hungry, because when we were getting him up he only wanted an oz and then would fuss.  And I am not one of those people that picks them up immediately.  And I only let him cry it out for 2-5m at a time befor I go in and hold him or tell him its okay.

Any suggestions on how to get him to be a better sleeper without a swaddle or swing-OR is he still too young to not have these or the pacifier to self sooth, are we rushing him.  He has colic so up to this point he was always screaming, but that is getting better as time goes on.
