Did you eliminate soybean oil and/or lecithin for MSPI?
« on: March 29, 2009, 00:11:48 am »
We found out Friday dd still has blood in her stool.  She's 5 mos and I have been dairy/soy free other than soybean oil and lecithin since she was about 6 weeks old.  I'm thinking I might have to eliminate those next to see if it makes a difference.  She also still has trouble eating her 4 oz bottles (no solids yet).  I'm wondering if it's due to a food aversion to what's in my milk (I pump for all her bottles).
Has anyone else had to eliminate these from their diet?

I would eliminate the two for a few weeks to see if it helps.  Not sure about the bottle aversion though, perhaps someone else has some ideas on that.

My son is MSPI, but I haven't taken out either of those from his diet, as intolerance is supposed to be intolerance to protein and oil/lecithin don't have protein.  At least that's what I have read.  Still, you can try like Spectra suggested.  I didn't elminate those when I was breastfeeding him.

I did read that protein shouldn't be in those, but I read in another article that trace amounts can still be present from the refining process.  I have an appt w/ GI specialist in a week, so hopefully we'll get some answers.

Just wanted to say that I DID eliminate the oil and lecithin from my diet even though I know it's not supposed to cause any issues.  I have yet to add them back.  (she showed trace positive to soy allergy, so we are waiting for a couple of months).

Regarding the food aversion.  Actually that can be a possibility.  The way it was explained to me was that they begin to associate eating with pain  :( very early on.  My DD started not wanting to BF for very long and it was so frustrating, but that made sense.  The good news is that they relearn very quickly - as soon as she started feeling better she was pigging out again :)  It could be something different, just know that there is a school of thought about that.

Good luck and big (((hugs))).   :-*
