constipated and irritable of neocate
« on: March 30, 2009, 02:57:06 am »
My 6 month old is on neocate for mspi and reflux. she has been on it for about 3 weeks. her reflux has gotten SO much better on the neocate but she is constipated!!! she gets milk of mag twice a day and still has like rock poops! i feel so bad for her cause she really has to strain to poop! also she has been super fussy too on the neocate?? the GI dr mentioned trying the nutramigen AA if the constipation didnt improve but i havent heard real good reviews on it? has anyone had better luck with elecare vs. neocate? errrg im so frustrated...this is a never ending battle!

My ds was on Nutramigen AA and got very constipated and gassy.  We switched to Elecare and he is doing much bettter.  Our nutritionist said that while the elemental formulas are basically the same, some kids do better on one than another.  She told us to try another one (Either Elecare or Neocate) and see if that helps.  You might try doing the same.  And at least for us in the US Elecare is so much cheaper than Nut. AA!  It might be worth looking into.  Good luck!

I agree with PP, I would mention the Elecare to your doc and say you'd rather try that as you've heard from other mom's the Nutra AA doesn't do that great of a job either.  Let us know if you get to try it!  :)

we go see the GI dr tomorrow. so i will ask her about the elecare. also do u know if WIC will pay for it? they pay for the neocate and i know they wont pay for nut AA cause it is "to new" to the formula market. i hope they do cause i cant afford to buy it on my own.

I'm not sure about that as I'm in Canada and here it's all covered 100%.  Can you call WIC and find out?  Or perhaps someone else here will know the answer to that question.
