Is there any MSPI cheese out there?!
« on: March 31, 2009, 19:09:56 pm »
I have found dairy free cheese, but it is all made with soy. Has anyone ever found a milk AND soy free cheese-ish type product?

Oh yes, I know, I have read some reviews about "sheese" and they are mixed.  I guess I am looking for something that I can mix into a white sauce, or add to potato cakes for stickiness and holding it together, etc etc.  But my hopes aren't too high.

I have recently been diagnosed with cows milk intolerance, and have bought this one
http://www.redwoodfoods.co.uk/products/cheezly/index.html

but I've just read the ingredients and seen it's got soya protein in it. Can your lo not have soy?
I used this for the first time yesterday to make pesto- dh said it was not a success  :(
Am too scared to try it on it's own to see what it tastes like (am still scarred from my goats milk experience of last week)  ::)

Nope, we need soy free as well.  >:(

I haven't heard great things about the soy cheese, so I am very sorry that you've had to eat it!

I wonder if I can MAKE some cheese out of DS's Nutramigen ... hmmmmmmmmm <scratches head> ..........

You know, I never ever ever thought of goat's cheese.  Or sheep's cheese.  I can't really truly see my DS liking feta, or chevre, but in cooking, it's worth a shot!  Mmmmmm, so smart emma!

And here I had plans to attempt homemade cheese with Nutramigen tomorrow! Which I *know* won't work but am still determined to give it a shot anyway!

See I have idea what it will taste like lol! Hopefully ok, but I have no clue, just popped into me brain. Smart? Oooh I do have my very rare moments lol! Give the formula cheese a go and let us know what happens, you never know, could be doable x

I've never found a cheese substitute. I tried a soy cheese once and one bite and it was in the bin! Ugh, I'd rather go without! I've tried making kefir with coconut milk as a yoghurt substitute but not keen on that either. I've just had to change the way that I cook!

Just be careful with the goat cheese, their protein is extremely similar to cow's milk protein, even more so than soy.  My son couldn't handle the goat's milk either.  I'm getting groceries tonight, I'll take a look at the rice cheese and see.  Have you tried the specialty organic stores?  Sometimes they have more variety than the grocery store.
