Okay, I'd lengthen your winddown routine a little bit. So for us, its stare out of the window or stare at the fish for a minute or two, slow walk up the stairs with a song (same song every time), into nursery, blinds down, into sleeping bag, white noise on low, another song (same one every time), a little phrase ("mummy and daddy love you very much, you're just going for a little sleep and I'll see you when you wake up"), bear on either side, kiss and leave. The whole thing takes 10 mins when we need a long winddown and less when he's very tired.
Other stuff that helped:
1. White noise - absolute lifesaver for us but doesn't work for everyone
2 Learning that a lot of other parents occasionally rock or bounce to sleep. Every once in a while won't hurt, specially not at only 6 weeks old, so don't beat yourself up about it.
3. Emergency cuddle in the cot technique!: lay baby on back in cot and wrap your arms round. Get your whole upper body in the cot. Your head ends up (very lightly) on baby's tummy facing away. Keep shh-ing. As the crying dies down, carry on shhing. As baby gets drowsy, slowly withdraw the lower arm. Keep moving away slowly until you just have a hand on the tummy. Finally - slowly and gently - move away completely.
4. Holding hands or swaddling.
Let me know how it goes. I'm here if you want to chat
