Short napper (biorhythms?) - what should I do?
« on: April 06, 2009, 14:21:51 pm »
My DD is 5 months old, and very recently started falling asleep on her own (and doing a fantastic job with it).  However, every single nap she wakes up at the 45 minute mark, and I cannot get her back to sleep for at least another hour.  I've tried going in around the 35 minute mark to hold her through the jolts (doesn't help, she fully wakes up every time).  I've tried shh/patting her back to sleep (no success).  I tried taking her out of her crib for 20 minutes or so, then winding down again and putting her back in (she did NOT like that).  If I leave her alone in her crib she just babbles for another hour.  I've tried W2S, with no success.  From reading around on these boards, I see that some LO's just have the biorhythm to wake up after 45 minutes or so, which doesn't effect her nights sleep.  She seems to fit in this category perfectly, but I know she needs more than 3 45 minute naps a day!  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Would an EASAS schedule work if it was sleep for 45 minutes, A for an hour, then back to sleep for an additional 45 minutes?  I could really use some suggestions!  Thanks!!

If your lo is a short napper then you definately need more than 3 naps a day. Mine went thru a stage of having 6!!!! I would recommend keeping an eye out for tired cues rather than the clock for a while and let your lo lead you.

My lo has improved with naps somewhat now (naps can be developmental) but we sometimes squeeze in an extra cat nap.

May I ask - did your son naturally work his way from 6 naps to fewer (sleeping longer?), or did you have to help him out in some way?  DD is a little younger than your son by a couple of weeks, so I'm **hoping** for some improvement.  I'm happy to do whatever to give her the proper amount of sleep, but 6 naps a day kinda keeps me shut in a lot (going stir crazy is already a bit of a problem for me).  I know the last nap in the three nap routine was a freebie - with 6 naps are two free? :)

How do you mean free?

Well I played about with his A time (still do) to try and get him to the tired but not ut or ot point. I think my lo has a window of about 10 secs! Lol I haven't had much success with extending naps.

I think he just starting sleeping longer tbh. It happened all of a sudden too. Hope this happens for you too.

By free I meant APOP - car or stroller rides, etc.  I can't seem to think too clearly these days! :)  Yhanks for your input - it gives me hope!
