What cool things can your 9-12 month old do?
« on: April 01, 2009, 18:55:20 pm »
My DD, 9 months, seems like she will never ever crawl, let alone walk, but she's picked up a few things in the last week or so that I think are cool.  She "slaps five", claps her hands when we say "yay!", will say "dada" on command, will growl on command (guess who taught her this trick...  :-\), dances in a sitting position when we put on music, waves hello and goodbye (to the dog only), and tries to say "Lola" for the dog's name.

Things she doesn't do:  pull herself up on anything, go from sitting to laying down or vice versa, crawl...  (When will this happen!?!??)

Wondering what cool things your babes can do?

Whistle!!!! My mum taught her at 11 months!!! She also does this thing we call the wiggle. She started at around 4 months and still does it now on demand!

When she learnt to blow kisses, most of the time they came out of her ear or head!!!

Bless, they are so funny!!!

Hey, my lo isn't crawling at 10months. He does scooch backwards on his tummy, bum-shuffles, and the last few days has learnt to cruise and walks holding a hand, and stands alone for a few seconds! He says "mumum" "dadum" and is really selective about who he waves to lol. If he doesn't want something he screws his face up and waves his arms, it's so funny lol.

My 8.5 month old will touch my eyes, ears, nose, and mouth when I say the words, and then put his hand under my chin to tickle me when I say "and under my little chin!"

He will commando crawl across the room to get his dummy - but only his dummy, nothing else in the world is deemed important enough to exert that much energy for  ::)

My 10mo will wave immediatelywhenever he hears the word "bye-bye" -  he's like Pavlov's dog. He also waves goodbye to the backdoor when we are going out! He's just starting doing this funny thing where he sticks his tongue out as far as it will go then twists it to the side. If it sounds disgusting - that's because it IS!  He says "Mama", but not "dada" - much to my gratification (DS1 said "Dada" first)!

They are sooo cute at this age!

Oh, my LO also knows which button on the tv remote to push to get the on-screen tv guide up.  He thinks that the actual change from tv to the blue on-screen tv guide is the most hysterical thing in the world, and will do it repeatedly all day if I let him.

This is a great age!!  I am really enjoying this stage!  Seems like she learns something new every day!

My LO is 11 months and for the last while has been a like a performing seal!  Waves and claps on command.  She can touch her head and toes and more recently her tummy.  She can blow a kiss and raspberries when we ask her. The best thing is pretending to be a fish- open and closes her mouth repeatedly.  Is very cute.

Same with remotes as you Mashimaro-- loves them!  Knows to point it at the tv and press-always seems to get nigerian movies though!  And loves to pull out the dvds and cds.  Never mind all the toys!!

She has though started crawling and walking round the furniture after not moving much at all.  Just decided to go for it a few weeks ago and hasn' stopped since.   No sign of standing or walking by herself though.  Happy enough moving the way she is I imagine!!

DD isn't crawling either. She spins circles on her belly and can go backward but that's it. She's just starting to creep along the furniture.

She says "mama", "puh puh" (for puppy) and "buh" (for ball/balloon). She's starting to follow simple commands. She closes all the pop ups easily on her pop up box and knows how to open a few of them. She dances when we sing to her. She knows how to pull the handle on her see and say. She waves bye-bye but not very consistent with that yet. She can scoot her little tyke bike backwards. She can pick up the tiniest piece of lint/fuzz and hand it to me. Just today she started offering me water from her sippy cup by sticking the straw in my mouth!

WOW!  I'm wondering at what age these massive developments start happening?! I mean, we noticed a HUGE leap in DS over the past two weeks, but things like waving and stuff like that, he has no clue!   Is there a huge brain-spurt coming soon!?

Your LOs all sound sooooo cute!

Mashimaro, there was a big one here around 9 months! They get much better at using their fingers then too.

I think 9 months is the time for big learning too.  In the few days since I posted this question, we've added "pekaboo baby" to our repertoire (she pulls the lovie over her face until we say "where is the baby?" and then she pulls it down with a huge grin in her face and we excitedly say "peekaboo!").  It's incredible to watch them soak it all up.
