7.5 month old not eating solids
« on: April 16, 2009, 11:24:38 am »
Hi

My little girl was eating solids fine until about 2 weeks ago.  She will take her milk but not take much food although does have desert or yogurt.  I'm worried she will develop a sweet tooth.  Also your easy routine generally sayd to give milk first then food but Lucy would never eat food if this was the case so we tend to give food and then top up with milk.  Is this ok?

Also could someone please send me a sample easy routine for a 7-8 month old please?

Thanks.

This was ours at 8 months. A times increased slightly throughout the day :)

E: 7 am wake and milk (not too much if she won't have breakfast because of it)
A: 7-9

breakfast was around 8.30 or 9 ish (cereal and fruit)

S: 9.30-11

E: 11 small milk feed
A: 11-1

lunch at around 1, vegetables or fruit, yoghurt, a biscuit, that stuff

S: 2-3.30 (or 4)
E: milk

5 pm dinner, meat and two veg

6.30 pm bedtime routine, bath, massage, book

bottle

S: 7 pm for the night

You can do a DF at that age, but we dropped it at around then.

Good luck, routine wise, this was our best time and lasted from 8-14 months when he switched to one nap. The naps can be long, but I wouldn't let LO sleep past 4pm.

Oh, and the solids are still a luxury and for the iron. If she doesn't take much, choose iron-rich solids, the main nutrition comes still from the milk :)

Thanks.  I was worrying about the iron.  I've just tried her with mixed veg which she ate about 3 spoonfuls and then about 5 spoonfuls of yog.  I'm going to wait about an hour before giving her some milk - unless she gets too distressed.

Also do you have any tips of getting them to sleep through? She still wakes for a feed around midnight.

Thanks.

A few spoonfulls is quite enough to up the iron. They tend to take what they need :)

Do you do a dreamfeed at around 11 pm at night? Right before you go to bed. It might mess things up though, it sometimes does. I think with only one nightfeed she is doing quite well...

I might try a dream feed.  I hear so many mams saying their baby and sometimes younger than Lucy say theirs sleep from 7 til 7 and I wonder what I'm doing wrong!  I would love a uninterupted sleep!  I sometimes think I'm selfish but just 1 night of great sleep would do wonders for me!!

You know, don't always believe what you hear. I have been talking to many mums of kids older than that and well, there are many many ones who do NOT sleep through at that age. There is nothing you are doing wrong  :-*
