well last night i cooked mashed potatoes and steamed all sorts of winter veg for tea and DH was going to cook steak and sausages on the BBQ once he did the arvo run around from ballet and basketball, but Max saw me mashing the potatoes and got his dinner bowl out of the cupboard and started crying saying "tea, tea" so i ended up giving him the mash and veg and stirred thru some of the kids tuna and he loved it, he did have a small bit of sausage when it was cooked, but now i know something else he will eat now!

He is really good at trying different things, just wish breakfast was as easy. I'm starting to think of giving up on brekkie altogether. You'd think he would be hungry after not eating all night.....NUP not max!
Or another idea is to feed him what he usually eats for lunch and tea! maybe he doesnt like "normal" brekkie stuff!

KIDS why arent they easy to work out?????

What a great thread..we have boring toast and cereal with fruit most days.

Just wanted to say my LO is not a great eater in the morning at all but is a fab eater in general.  I find that I have to leave breakfast at least an hour, if not an hour and a half before she'll eat anything substantial otherwise its a bit of a waste of time. She has milk when she gets up and then breakfast a while later and that seems to help.

Maybe Max just needs a long time to come round to the idea of food in the morning!!  Like you, I am amazed she isn't starving after sleeping all night!

Hi Shiv, if your LO isn't very hungry in the morning, why not give him his breakfast before he has hismorning milk so he fills up on food rather than the easy option of filling up on a bottle of milk? He can have a smaller bottle of milk when he wakes and then the rest after breakie or with his morning snack. Now he's on set meal times and taking in more, you don't need to have such a strict  bottle/milk as long as he gets his milk gradually throughout the day he'll leave enough room for food. I wouldn't mess with the night bottle tho .... that's still our backup/security to know she's filled up over the day enough to get her thru the night - although as of 14mths old she's been cutting back on the amount she drinks at night, so she's obviously getting enough to see her thru! My DD won't eat on waking either (I never offered early morning milk tho) but she will drain her sippy of water before her breakfast - so thirsty not hungry first thing!

Max doesnt have milk in the morning after waking either, sometimes if he is up extra early i try the bottle but he will only have a few sucks and off to play! The last few days i have just been giving him a piece of toast with the other kids and then he eats more morning tea just before his day nap! Not worth fighting and stressing over it! He just doesnt want it, but then around 10.30/11.00 he seems happy to eat lots! That is the time he usually has his lunch as he sleeps from 12.00-2.00 then has a snack once he's awake again!

I bf so I like to feed her first thing in the morning.  I don't think she'd be as interested if I left it until after breakfast!  I don't mind waiting a while for breakfast time.  Gives us a chance to get things sorted in the morning!

i think its personal choice Shiv, whatever works for your family! I used to spend a good 30 minutes fussing on getting max to eat brekkie, but the last few days i've kinda given up n stressing, he's just happy to sit in the high chair with the other kids half eating his toast! My other 2 Lo's used to have a full milk bottle when they woke, then about 20 minutes later they would eat a good brekkie of either cereal or toast and sometimes even abit of both! So different to max, he is alot smaller then they were though, he's 16months but looks about 10 months, so he;s quite tiny, must only have a little tummy!

I agree it's personal choice too. I just thought you were a little worried as to why he was eating loads at other times, sorry, didn't mean to suggest anything was wrong :-* I would also offer milk in the mornings if I was still BFing - I used to love the cuddles - well until she started fighting me and wanting a bottle at 8mths! ::) I still miss it tho. Well done on keeping it going Shiv!
Artemis is more into her colouring in her highchair than eating in it in the mornings ;) We get her egg allergy results back tomorrow evening, so maybe she will be allowed scrambled eggs or French toast on Saturday for breakfast!! Oooh I hope so, as everything seems to have egg in it the moment you are not allowed it! So hopefully it'll open up a whole range of new food tastes/textures for her!

Andi, did you just get her egg allergy tested to make sure she wasnt allergic before feeding it to her or had she showed signs of being allergic! where i am they dont just allergy test unles theres family history or they have showed signs.... i think they should just let you allergy test,as a procaution, i have never had any allergies with the other 2 LO's but i'm still cautious on what i try Max with!

havent attempted egg yet! :)
Hope all goes well for Artemis and she can have a yummy scrambled egg. Hmmmm yummo the thought of scrambled egg sounds good, I wish my husband wasnt night shift this week cos i would love scrambled egg on toast for mothers day on sunday!!!! I'll have to make it myself! :)

Yeah I think my LO is a bit fed up with the bf now-hard to interest her during the day but we'll keep going morning and night for a while and see how we go.

Think Max, like my LO Maeve must just take a while to warm up to food in the morning!  You're just right to take the stress out of it in the mornings.  Let him feel included with the toast but leave it at that!  Your stress levels will be so reduced!!

How cute that Artemis is colouring in her highchair!  Awh!!  Maeve more interested in eating crayons at the mo than colouring although we have had a few strokes on paper so think shes starting to get the idea.  Fingers crossed for no egg allergy!!!  And you're so right,  the minute you aren't allowed something in a diet, you see it in every single recipe!!

OMG sorry Shiv, I wrote my posts to you using He and His!!! Whoops, I even wrote the first post earlier with She etc but reread yours quickly mentioning Max and I got a whoosh of Mum-nesia and changed them all to He and His!!! Sorry Maeve!! DOH!!

Artemis was allergic to egg via my breastmilk, so I had to cut egg out of my diet for 8.5mths, and I eat a lot of eggs being veggie!! So we have kept her completely eggfree hoping it was just something early and she will grow out of it - plus we need to continue with her vaccinations (we stopped at the MMR, I think, as it is grown in egg white) and the paed refused to do any til she gets screened, then months of waiting for DHs health insurance to include DD before we pay out, but finally we are there! Fingers x'ed for the results - I'm so nervous as I really want to feed her eggs as a source of protein among many other things!!!
I'm lucky on the crayons thing as DD has never gummed anything, no toys ever went in her mouth, no bits of fluff from the floor, nothing! Made teething a pain in the butt, cos she couldn't help cut them through, but she has never put anything in her mouth apart from her beloved dummy!!

wow Andi how lucky are you that she never put anything in her mouth. Max was a shocker for fluff off of the floor, i swear he used to search my house for it, he even used to pluck his mat on his bedroom floor and eat it....He stopped doing it now thankfully as DH was going to take the mat out of his room, funny little habbits kids get!

fingers crossed for you tomorrow!

No worries!  Poor Maeve has very little hair so is often confused for a boy anyways!!

And so lucky about the gumming!  Maeve has chewed everything although thank goodness she is now at a stage where is she finds dirt or fluff or paper she will come and give it to me rather than munch it down!

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Thanks girls! I know it's nothing major compared to some of the test, but I so want her not to have any problems with foods and hidden ingredients ... I just freak out when I think of future parties where you would have to be so so careful what's lying around and what other parents might give her innocently! We have to ring after 7pm, so will let you know...

Max tried EGG custard for lunch but only had 2 spoons as he was extremely tired and irritable, so i'll save it for when he wakes. he thought it was a good idea to start the day at 6am....had to be my grocery shopping day, so we did the groceries after the older LO's were dropped at school and he came home to bed at 11am.....earlier then usual, but he wouldnt stop crying and wanted his bed!

He's been dribbling sooooooo much the last 3 days so i think the teeth are really giving him a problem! :( poor thing!

Poor Max...hope he likes the custard after his sleep.  Maeve tried scrambled egg yesterday and loved it.  Such an easy lunch option!!

And tell me about the dribbling..Maeve has been chewing on everything and was half awake all night crying on and off so I' definately think its teeth.  Still hasn't a tooth in her head bless her!!

Fingers crossed still for the phone call later Andi.
