Cocoa powder reaction?
« on: May 11, 2009, 05:17:52 am »
This may be a dumb question but is cocoa powder a common problem with babies?  I have an older DD who has multiple food allergies (milk, soy, eggs, nuts) so when my son came along 2 months ago I decided to keep these things out of my diet.  I made a chocolate cake yesterday with some chocolate frosting for Mother's Day/my sisters birthday.  It was a dairy and egg free recipe.  But we had a HORRIBLE night last night with DS.  Is it the cocoa powder?  I haven't been eating any sort of caffeine and not much sugar as well.  Maybe I really can't have anything chocolate for a long time?!?!
Thanks!
Carole

Hey Carole

Quite a few babies do have issues with chocolate, so it could well have caused a problem
you poor thing :(

I would give it a few days and have a very small amount in the morning(nothing else new that day) and see if your baby has another unsettled period following...it hopefully was just a coincidence????  I hope so for your sake 'cause having some chocky now and then is so nice!!!

Hugs
Lizzie

I'm in the same boat.  My son had a piece of chocolate a week ago and was a complete mess.  Sometime this week I am going to put a bit of cocoa powder in his yogurt and see if he reacts or if it was all just a coincidence.  Hope it goes well for you.

Thanks for the input!  He is still a mess and sleep is horrible at this point.  But hopefully he will feel better soon and we can work on the overtiredness!  I guess he is just doing his part (by not tolerating chocolate) to help me get back into my old clothes.  :)

Hehe yeah, funny how that works.  My son eats better than anyone in the house!

Love love love how you look at that :)  How long has the unsettled behaviour gone on for now, 'cause I wouldn't think it should last too long if you haven't had any more??
