growth spurt at 4mos
« on: May 20, 2009, 21:00:44 pm »
I am confused..in the books I have read the growth spurts happen around 3 wks, 6wks, 3 months and six months..etc.  Is there really a 4month growth spurt?  If my lo can't stomach more in her bottle but is in a growth spurt how do I feed her every three hours during the day so she doesn't wake at night.  My lo is 16 weeks old.

That's when you move to 4 hour easy.  They can take in more at each feed at this age so streaching them will help with that.  My LO had a huge GS at this age and it lasted a week, he was waking every hour at night!!!!

Many babies DO go through a 4 month growth spurt.  How is your lo eating and sleeping currently?

She is sleep usually anywhere from 1.5hr - 2hrs sometimes longer 3 times a day.  She is getting a little more with each bottle because she was quite fussy a few days ago.  She did sleep from 8:30pm - 5:45 one night but I think she woke and put herself back to sleep b/c I could hear her babbling at 2am.  She is usually up like clockwork at 8:45am but this morning she was up at 8:15am.  I had to put her to bed early b/c she only had a catnap for her last nap and it wouldn't carry her through to her usual 8:00 bedtime but her feeding isn't really changing just her sleep habits and how long she goes between feeds.  Sometimes it is every 3, usually the noon one is 3.5 hours.

Good thought in putting her to bed early with no cat nap.

So are you trying to tweak something? From what I could make out with your schedule, she seems to be doing pretty well.

Could you post your routine like

Eat
Activity
Sleep

Note amounts of feeding, how long awake, how long naps, overnight sleep etc.

That might give us a better idea on what is happening!

This was yesterday.  Last night was an awful night with waking up every 20 minutes in pain.  Gave gas drops but had to do a little AP to get her to settle each time.  The wake ups lasted until midnight then she was fine.  I did not feed her though, she did have a bowel movement then when she got up this morning.  I have tried giving her 5.5 ozs as if I give her a full 6oz she usually spits up more(has reflux).
