How does your LO sleep? Mine is an acrobat at night!
« on: May 26, 2009, 18:40:06 pm »
LO sleeps in her crib 99% of the time and we just took a mini-vacation this past weekend where we had to share a bed with her.  She slept in the middle and practically did somersaults and flips in her sleep.  I got kicked in the face, she rolled on top of me to sleep, slept upside down, horizontal, vertical, hands and arms spread out, and at one point, i even fell off the bed as she was inching too close - only to climb back on and sleep on the foot of the bed.  :-\ All 26inches of her took up most of the king side bed as DH and I barely managed to stay on.

She's a very active sleepy, rolling from one end to another all night long, sleeps on her face, her side, her back, and sometimes even tries to sleep in a yoga upward dog position against the towel (which we roll up to prevent from hitting her head against against the headboard) She does the same at home in the crib as you can see by the avatar. :)

Out of curiosity, does your LO do the same or just stay in one place the whole night.

DH and I go in to check on DS every night before we go to bed. Usually find him on his tummy, scrunched up in the corner of the cot with his head twisted around sideways, his bum stuck up in the air and one arm sticking out behind his back, in a way that only a baby can bend.  Somewhere in that mess he has his lovey squeezed up with him.

I often pick him up gently and move him to the centre of his cot and try to get him onto his back again if I can, but then as soon as we get to our room I can hear him banging on the cot bars and know that he has worked himself up into his corner again!

LOL!

How old is she?

J is the same, never stays still and I hear him banging about quite often. I am wondering how on earth he's EVER going to sleep in a normal bed, especially considering he will only sleep on his tum!  :P

DD is all over the place when she sleeps at night.  She started tummy sleeping full time at 4 months and seems to scoot herself to every corner of the crib at some point during the night.  We could only swaddle her until 1 month before she broke free and refused it and even then sleeping on her back she would be quite mobile.

DS moves all the time too! We hear him shifting and rolling about on the monitor. He loves sleeping on his side, so I'm assuming we hear him flipping back and forth all night :) When he wakes up in the morning I often find that he's turned 180 degrees so his head's at the other end of the crib! Or he's only turned 90 degrees and is having a grand time kicking the bars of his crib LOL :)

LOL...Judy I have a million pictures like your avatar...arms thru the rails, leg up on the side, both feet out thru the rails. My kid is EVERYWHERE!! Curled up like a bunny, butt up in the air, sideways, upside-down, sprawled out like she's making snow-angels. So funny!!

We have never had her sleep with us...it wouldn't even be possible!!   :)

Good to know how many active lettle babies there are out here. Mine is still 2 months so can't move about too much yet but she does wave arms and legs frantically and kick the side of her basket and no matter how I put her she always seems to end up on her left side, neck arched back :-)

rgatt...slighty off-topic, but your avatar makes me laugh, because we looked at pics of my dd the other day, and were cracking up at how HUGE her binkie was...taking up her whole face!! You'll laugh one day, too!!

Thank you so much for sharing! LO is 10.5mo. and it makes me nervous just imagining what she would be like in a big girl's bed on her own. (Thank you Stacy for the tip on the sleep sack, I think she'll be using one of those for a VERY long time) :)

Reminds me of a story my parents always like to tell..when I was a toddler, i fell out of the bed and scooted my way under the bed; and slept in a corner. My parents thought someone kidnapped me.  ::)

So basically, at lets say 6 months you don't have to worry  if they are sleeping on their tummy? Ava has just started doing this  in the middle of the night and I am nervous about it as she sometimes has her face face-down  :-\ I keep checking on her but when I am sleeping, I do wake-up scared....until I see her breathing  :P She sometimes ends up in the crawl position and starts to cry not knowing what to do, so we get up and place her on her back but she ends up on her side and/or tummy soon after. Should I stop worrying?

Ava, there is no need to worry....if she is that mobile then tummy sleeping is absolutely fine, and yes the risk of SIDS does drop dramatically after 6 months  :-* :-* :-*

Mine doesn't move much but we gave him one of those pillows with a hole in the middle because he liked sleeping on one side and was getting a very bad flat head. We didn't want to go to the helmet route so tried the pillow, and I think that basically keeps him in the middle of the bed though he still likes to sleep on his side (sort of - back arched and head turned but butt still flat on mattress).

Great! Thanks  ;)

Something to add to this...

Just now for Ava's nap, I did not swaddle her or put her in the sleep positioner as its very hot here right now! I left her in her diaper as it would be too warm to do the above. She fussed for over 30 min until I finally thought okay, swaddle and sleep positioner  :-X and she fell asleep rigth away  :D Its tough in the heat to judge how they should be dressed, etc. But it helped her to soothe so hope this may help someone going thru the same heat/summer issue!

Our little Lily sleeps like many of your little ones too! We put her down in the very middle of the crib, but within minutes we find that she's already flipped herself onto her tummy, bum up in the air, head squeezed into one of the corners of the crib (preferably the one closest to the door, imagine that!). DH sometimes tries to move her back cuz she looks so uncomfortable. But, of course, within minutes, she's where she wants to be in the position she loves the most anyway!
