Sleep in shared hotel room
« on: May 29, 2009, 10:33:48 am »
Hello ladies, I need some BW wisdom please....

We have to stay in a hotel room soon.  DS will be 11 months old.  Its a wedding, so I'll be staying in the room with DS from bedtime (7pm) onwards.  Normally DS sleeps in his own room with some white noise.

So here's my question:  I'm quite happy to read quietly while he sleeps.  What is the best way to do it to avoid waking him up?  I've thought about closeting myself in the bathroom with the door slightly open so that I can have the light on (DS is fine with that as long as he falls asleep with the light on iyswim).   Someone suggested putting his cot in the bathroom, but I think I'd drive myself crazy worrying about lack of air...

What do you do?

TIA
xx

What about getting a book light? That way you can read and there wont be huge amounts of light to disturb him.

I'm sure putting his cot in the bathroom would be fine with the door open, but you might disturb him if you needed to use the toilet lol!

I put dd in the bathroom one time it was great.  The next the bathroom was not big enough so we "stole" the luggage carrier fro the front desk and threw a blanket over so she could not see us and then we were able to watch tv as long as it was lightly playing when she fell asleep.  Wrked great.

ROTFLMAO at the story of two sensible parents tiptoeing away from a reception desk with a HUGE luggage carrier ;D.

Hmm if you can get a suite with a sitting room then put him in there or 2 adjoining rooms. Me and dd stayed in a hotel room when she was about 9 or 10 months old. Cos she was so used to sleeping by herself I went and sat outside the bedroom door while she fell asleep and read in the corridor, got some funny looks from people but I didnt care. Cos I was attending a wedding party the baby sitter went and lay on the bed reading magazines while I was out with a low lamp light. DD never once woke. I did the same at nap time then once she was asleep sneaked in and had a cat nap myself.
Oh and I put a blanket over the side of her travel cot so she couldnt see me.

Am I allowed to oopsiedaisie a spot on this thread just to see ideas. With DH and I moving abroad in a short time, we will prob be spending a torturous week in a hotel room while our house gets sorted out. We've just resigned ourselves to the fact that we will all have to go to bed at 630pm in one big bed! Ack!  Other ideas being sought out, so will just keep an eye here!

Thanks ladies for all the helpful advice!

Stacy, the family room idea sounds very sensible indeed.  Unfortunately, the place is an old-fashioned English hotel (service with a sneer! ;)).  But I think your suggestion is going to come in very handy when we next travel abroad :)

Mashi, good luck with the move and hotels!
