Yeah, try 2.5 and see how that goes.  He may just need shorter As for a bit.

Hi,
Just wondered what you think of set naps? I am a bit at the end of my rope with this unpredictable napping routine we seem to ahve. I cannot break the early starts as he never consistently naps well and so bedtime is early and it just goes on and on. I do feel I have put a lot into it and he is 8.5 months now! Feel like maybe I need to change something and just wondered what you thought.
Thanks

Some kids react well to that, others don't.  It's certainly worth a try.  I'm not sure what's going on that he's having such trouble stretching.  It could be with a set nap routine that you can get that cat nap dropped for sure and then hopefully with practice he'll be able to handle his bedtime which will knock out the EWs.  If you decide to go that route you need to give it a full week before deciding it isn't working.

I'm game if you are!
