Ugh - So we are still having great naps until we hit the last nap of the day (catnap). She sleeps around 2 hours for each nap (3 naps) and then with the catnap time she NEVER sleeps well. I do the same thing I do at every other nap in regards to A time and she always has a fitful nap and then is OT for bed (I think). My problem is that I don't know if she is OT or UT for bed because bedtime until DF is a nightmare with tons of wakings but she sleeps great all day?
? Any ideas? I try getting her a nap of around 1 to 1.5 hours for that last nap but it seems she wakes at the 30-45 minute mark?

Think I typed too soon...yesterday was horrible. Naps were all over the board. She usually puts herself to sleep but was just a mess yesterday and I constantly had to go in and help her get back to sleep. She seemed like an OT mess all day. That didn't help last night at all either. She was very fitful again from 7:30 - 10:00. Don't know what it is by this time of the day - was told it could be the "witching hours" but thought we had gotten past that....Here is our crazy routine yesterday
Woke 5:30 (usually sleeps till at least 7:00 but became unswaddled). Treated as night feed and put straight back to bed.
Eat at 8:00
Slept from 9-10 (usually sleeps full 2 hours)
Eat 10:00 - couldn't get back to sleep so just decided to feed and move schedule around a bit)
Slept from 11-12:15 and woke, back down from 12:30 - 1:15.
Eat 1:15
Slept 2:15 - 3:15 (usually sleeps full 2 hours) Couldn't get back down so got up and had A time until 4:15
Eat 4:15 (let her eat to sleep just to get some rest)
Sleep 4:30 - 5:15, woke and then back down from 5:30 - 6:30
Eat at 7:15 and in bed.
Woke from 7:15 until 10:00 off and on until DF at 10:00 - then woke at 10:30 where I gave her paci and slept until 7:15 this morning. She usually never makes a fuss after DF....HELP!

Hello - she is 9 1/2 weeks now. I though the same thing, but every time I try and put her down later, she ends up being harder to get down and seems OT to me...

My DS was also a happy spitter and was v hard to wind. We gave infacol before the feed and gripewater during- you could experiment with that. Then we went to just gripewater.
Good luck,

if you think she's OT then back down on A time for a bit but I'm thinking that she may need more A time and being hard to put down can be a sign of UT. But, I can't see her so you have to be my eyes!

Question re: A Time. Let's say she eats at 7:00 and is then scheduled to eat at 10:00 but then wakes at 9:45. Do I count from 9:45 -10:00 as part of her A time for her 10:00 feed and put her down 15 minutes early. So if I normally put her down at 10:45, put her down at 10:30?

yup, that's right. If her feed is due at 10 and she wakes at 9:45, count from then. You can think of A time as awake time because it includes all the time your lo is awake playing, eating, winding down, etc.

Ok - thanks. I will try to start extending the A time by 5 minutes or so tomorrow. I know that when I put her down at the 45 minute mark she is asleep by the 1 hour mark without fussing. It seems like with UT she is at least happy and will just hang out in her bed until she falls asleep. With OT it seems that her movements are more jerky, her eyes WIDE
open (hardly no blinking:)) and I have to calm her down prior to her falling asleep as she will just cry.
I have noticed that she seems to be able to go more than 3 hours between feeds at almost 10 weeks but I haven't started moving towards the 4 hour EASY because of her awake times. Any advice on this front?

if her feeds are extending but her A time hasn't caught up she'll do more of an EASAEAS rather than EASEAS.

Ok - so I attempted to start increasing A time today but am having an issue I need help with.
I have the monitor on all night so I can hear DD is she is crying. I wake around 7:00 in the morning and always check the video monitor to find her moving about awake, but she never cried. This is becoming an issue as I don't know when she is waking exactly and therefore am not sure how much A time she has had before 7:00 am. I put her down at the 45 minute mark this morning which is the usual A time and she slept MAYBE 30 minutes from 7:45 until now which is almost 10:00 am. This is throwing off the rest of the day as she becomes OT her first nap.
Any thoughts/ideas? I know there is mention of just letting them be in their bed if you don't hear them, but not sure how to handle this in regards to A time.

this exact thing happened to me! I would never know when H woke up. So I counted from when I got him up. When he was in his crib he was quiet and happy. But, this was also the start of him telling me that he needed more A time. So try counting from when you get her up and just keep a close eye on her. If she starts showing tired signs early (at her OLD sleep times) try to change the scenery and do something really low key. See if that helps. I know some people say 30 min are OT and I would always put H down early thinking he was OT but he was only sleeping 30 min because he wasn't tired enough! So try for 3 days to keep extending A times and see if the EW get any better

ooh - one more thing I wanted to ask:
What are signs for OT vs. UT? Seems like some of the signs could relate to either one, correct? I get confused between them sometimes.
