11 MO MSPI Next Steps
« on: June 28, 2009, 18:16:36 pm »
My 11 month old son is MPI possibly MSPI.  He was diagnosed very early on at about 3 weeks old.  I was breastfeeding and cut out all dairy but was still having soy.  When he was about 5 months old I found out the connection with soy and milk protien intolerance and cut out the soy as well.

So now he is 11 months old and I'd like to test whether he's outgrown it.  I'm only breastfeeding once per day and dairy makes me sick so I can't take it myself.  Any recommendations about what dairy or soy products I should start giving him to see if he's outgrown it.

Thanks

Hi! I'm just here lurking for ideas as well. My ds is allergic to milk (hives) but my doctor said to challenge him at 1yr. That time is fast approaching, so I'd love to hear ideas too! :)

Proud to have breastfed for over 24 months!

I'd think yogurt is a good option.  Perhaps try the soy yogurt first and only 1 tiny teaspoon of it, once a day for a few days before increasing the amount.

I agree with the one tiny teaspoon bit -- I challenged my son's soy intolerance with an entire pot of soy yogurt, stupid stupid thing to do  :-\  He vomited it all up two hours later.  Dr has agreed that it was likely the heaviness of so much yogurt in his tummy all at once, especially when it was something he'd never had before.

He then advised me to go with bread - in the UK all commercially produced bread has soy flour (well, I've never found one that doesn't!). But, it is a small amount and isn't straight SOY product.  Also, it then opens up a LOT of food options now!

He's been on bread for a week now so in a few days I am going to try the yogurt again. ONE SPOONFUL!
