small 2.30pm bottle at 8months
« on: June 30, 2009, 14:30:35 pm »
my lo has started to not take more than 4-5oz at his 2.30pm bottle. He takes 7 morning and night and has breakfast cereal with milk in. is it ok /normal for him to reduce this feed to a smaller amount?

He is STTN fine and seems happy.

I believe the recommended amount for 8 months is between 22-26oz, so you are not far off!!  You don't want to decrease too quickly, but as long as your lo is getting a good variety of other solids....he is most likely fine!!   :)

Would he take 8oz am and pm instead? My lo is 8 months too and he takes 24 oz in 3 bottles. If he will not take more at other times try getting as much calcium into him through solids as possible. Cheese, milk in food, yoghurt etc.

Lili,

Can you post what your routine looks like with milk and amounts of solids with timings etc, so that we can have a look at it.  It could just be that the timings need to be adjusted slightly.

If you could also put your naps in so that we can see how to juggle the routine.

Awake 7am
E Milk 7oz (recently has been taking 5) 7.20
E Weetabix/cereal 8.15
A 7-9
S 9-10 (this is a new thing too, he seems to not stay awake for the full 3hr 15 A now!)

A 10-1
E 11.30 lunch (veggies and fruit offered not always taking much)
S 1-2.30

E milk 7oz (recently been taking 3-4) 2.30
A 2.30-6.30
E 5pm tea (veg or sandwich)
A bath etc 6pm
E milk 6.30 (7oz offered - last few days 2oz taken)

He has changed these naps himself, its all very strange he was doing naps at 10.15-11.30 and 2.45-4 about 2 weeks ago now everything seems messed up but he is sleeping well at night. He has not been well (hospitalsied over the weekend - still not sure of exact problem maybe abdominal pain - docs have said give him 1 week for appetite to return)

He is crawling now, and very active.his tired cues are inability to play independantly and rubbing eyes. If i move to different place, he doesnt get distracted.

please help!

Oh and it doesnt help he has just started nursery where 1 main nap is at 12-1.30 but they can nap when they want with the lights on!

Hugs,

If your lo has not been well this is probably the reason why the milk intake has also gone down.  I would ride it out for a while and see what the docs say when you go back to see them.

Also the routine change can be due to starting nursery.  It does take them a while, but the soon adjust to the new routine.

Do you think he is teething?  Have you tried him with any teething / pain meds to see if he is more settled?

If you worried, I woudl go back to the doctors or take him to an out of hours doctor for a second opinion.
