Well, the "hard time" is probably due to the fact that my husband is the last one who went to the grocery store.  ::)

I'll be going this weekend, and imagine if it's not in Asian or Spanish sections (ours are very small), it may be with organics (also small), or, baking.

I did find it. . . a brand from Thailand, right next to Spanish/Mexican food. Weird though: it's not very sweet at all. Samuel doesn't seem to like the addition to his rice milk. So, I'm adding very little and hoping to up the quantity over time. The last two days, he hardly wanted to drink anything (teething pain, I think), which drove me nuts because I'm thinking it's going to make the constipation issues worse. Today, though, he was back up to about 20 oz of rice milk, probably 4 of juice. Pshew! It's funny how the littlest thing can make you feel better.

But HORRORS! I found puffs snacks (like Gerber puffs, but a generic brand), which are wheat based, in the high chair Monday after the babysitter had been here. AAARRRGGGHHH! I'm sure she just forgot, but I was so not happy.

Tonight I made gluten free pancakes from a mix, sausage, eggs, and canteloupe for dinner. Samuel was eating everything hand over fist, nodding, and kind of cooing through the whole dinner. I think he was very hungry from two days of not having drunk much milk, and also reveling in the fact that he was eating the same thing we all were, instead of his own "special" meal (which doesn't make him happy--he always wants to "share" whatever anyone else is eating). It was really cute.

I bought some quinoa. Any tips on cooking it, anyone?

I think you cook quinoa just like you do oatmeal.

Yes, quinoa is cooked like oatmeal.  When I make it for myself, I let it cool and add veggies, beans, garlic, olive oil, lemons, etc.  When I make it for my LO for breakfast, I cook it like oatmeal and add fruit later.  I also use it for him in meatlaof and with some olive oil with meat and veg.

Hey one tip from another mum was that if your LO isn't liking the rice milk (or rice milk + coconut milk) is adding a very little vanilla essence...don't know if that would help, but maybe a once a day treat is to do a fruit smoothie with your rice and coconut milk to up your LOs fat intake??? Just a thought, know some mums find their LOs won't drink smoothies, but it may be something you could have together :)

Hope things sort out for you soon, will be interested reading along to see if you have success with your elimination diet xx

I found that the shop bought rice milk was making my son really constipated (like 3 days without a poo) so I have switched to making home made rice or quinoa milk - yet another chore for me to do - sigh! I also make a home made egg nog from rice and coconut milk flavoured with vanilla, nutmeg and a little honey and he loves it! The egg adds extra vitamins and protein to the drink so a bit more like cows' milk. if anyone wants the recipe I can post it.

I'd love to see the recipes, and if you post it here I'd also recommend posting it in the recipe stickie thread.  I'm really curious!

I've posted the recipe in the MSPI recipe sticky. It's on the bottom of page 5.
