Issues with dinner time nap
« on: July 07, 2009, 23:35:14 pm »
Hi all --

My DS is a wonderful napper and barely needs assistance falling asleep (he is 11 weeks old).  HOWEVER, when we get to the 5pm nap he has a lot of trouble.  Sometimes we can get him to do a 45 min but mostly he just doesn't sleep and he's in his room supposedly resting but can be crabby.  Below is our routine:

E: 4-5am
E: 7am
A: 7:30am
S:8:20am
E: 10am
A: 10:30am
S:11:20am
E: 1pm
A: 1:30pm
S: 2:20pm
E: 4pm
A: 4:30pm
S: sometimes 5:30pm but mostly nothing
E: 6:30pm
A: 7pm
S: 7:30 - 8pm
E:10:30pm

Any help would be great!
Thanks!
Jennifer

We had the same problem with my DD1 remember this nap can be taken anywhere it is just to get them through to bath they usually drop it around 6months when they can handle a longer awake time.
Try putting him in a bouncer/swing/stroller/sling for that nap

Awesome advice! and thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'll try all of your suggestions again as things may have changed -- why you ask?

We have a reflux baby who hates his car seat, the swing, or anything that may scrunch his tummy. :(  I don't have a sling but others have mentioned it too -- I may have to splurge on one.  The good thing is and I will never complain about this -- he loves his crib and all other naps and all night is a breeze.

Does anyone else have any ideas for me?  Thanks in advance!

Sling is a good idea, or a pushchair that he can lie down flat in. Also I'm wondering if you could try that nap just a wee bit earlier, most of his other A times are 1hr 20 mins, so maybe try putting him down at 1hr 15mins? Also, remember if he skips the catnap entirely you can always bring bedtime earlier.

the last two days he has slept -- I think we were in a growth spurt though.....  Yesterday he went down earlier than normal.  Fussed quite a bit but was able to put himself to sleep!  YAHOO!

I'm going to try that again today and see if that works.  The major issue I have is that when I go back to work soon -- my husband does daycare pick up and will have to do this nap and he just doesn't have the patience I have. *SIGH*

Thanks again for your help!
