Is a 2 oz dreamfeed worth the effort?
« on: July 09, 2009, 11:52:27 am »
I have been staying up until 11 pm to dream feed my 2 month old.  He only takes 2 ozs.  He typically wakes between 4 and 5 am for more milk.  Sometimes he has his full six ozs and sometimes (last two nights) has only had 2 ozs.  Any advice on getting him to take more of the dreamfeed? Doesn't seem worth the effort for 2 ozs.

Hi!
The DF isn't for all babies......
We didn't start it to quite late GOKW? I was having a convo with a friend one day and thought it would be a great idea ::)...turned out to be the biggest 'tie' I could imagine!!!! and it was bugger to wean, so if your bub can manage without and sleep thru, (obviously you are yet to test this theory!), then I would go without. Our bub slept thru without it , it wasn't till I introduced it that she would start to wake!!! Go figure.....

ps I'd be wondering if 2oz was worth it too, what time is the last feed before that I think ours was 9pm and then about 5am at that stage

Sophie wouldn't df asleep, we had to wake her, and she'd only ever have 2-3oz. Stopped it cold turkey at 8.5 weeks; the first night she woke at 5am starving, and the next night she slept till nearly 7am without waking, and continued to do so every subsequent night.  ;D

Alex hated the df, we discovered early on he had worse multiple NW when we did it, it seemed to upset his normal sleep pattern. We'd leave it for a while and just do night feeds, then try it again for a week; each time= disaster. I gave up around 8 weeks and just carried on doing a night feed until he dropped it around 12 weeks.

We used to slightly wake DS for his DF for quite a few weeks till he got the hang of it and start taking a good amount, he got to the point where he'd chug the whole bottle we offered just so we'd leave him alone so he could go back to sleep  ;) :D
We're now coming out other end and stopping the DF as no longer interested (DS is 5 months)

Thanks for sharing your experiences.  We did skip it a few nights early on and he ended up waking up around 1.  It might be worth trying cold turkey now that he is a little older.

I just dropped the cluster feed at 6 and 8 so now his last bottle before the DF is at 7.

Dream feed never worked for my lo's.  Maybe you could try to drop it cold turkey, get to bed a little early and if he wakes at 1, give him a good feed and see how long he goes from there!!!  He might make it till 7 which for me would be worth it!

Good luck!
