Help starting EASY with 4mo bf to sleep baby
« on: July 14, 2009, 09:17:55 am »
I originally practiced EASY naturally when my DD was born but through demand feeding it seems to have slipped and she now generally goes to sleep after a feed.  This wasn't a problem as she was napping regularly during the day and settling herself to sleep at night and had started only waking around 4am for a feed.

However the past week or so everything has changed.  She will only nap for around 10 mins during the day two or three times and only after a feed.  And it's taking a good hour to settle her at night whatever time we try.  She is also back to waking at midnight, 3am and 5am when she tends to stay awake.  She also takes ages to settle back to sleep after each feed now as well.  I am absolutely shattered.

I have decided to try to get back to the EASY routine to avoid her getting OT which I think might be the problem at night - but she just refuses to sleep for any amount of time in the day.

She only feeds for around 5-7 mins, but it can be anything from every 1.5 to 2.5 hours which makes getting out hard as she's bound to go for a shorter period when we're out and will be inconsolable until she's fed.

How do I transition from her reliance on a feed to sleep to activity without her getting OT and not sleeping at all.  I have just fed her and winded her and she is now on her mat but is being whingey as usual which I am pretty sure means she's tired.  She also rubs her eyes lots which I know is a key sign of tiredness, but still refuses to sleep no matter what!

Please can someone offer some advice on how to get back on track?

Thanks!

She must be OT if she's sleeping for such a short time (10 mins).  And this is surely affecting her nights. What sort of routine are you trying to follow?  What routine was working for her before all this happened?  Any other significant changes?
