Rice Cake
« on: July 17, 2009, 07:36:49 am »
Hi, lately I found that my 8mo DS not so interested in having his regular purees and cereals. Im thinking about giving him more finger food. I saw many posts saying they are giving rice cake for their LO. I wonder how to make it ? Thanks.

I don't think you could make rice cakes!  They aren't a "cake" really but more of a cracker - lots of puffed rice all stuck together.

Here's a picture: http://i.ehow.com/images/GlobalPhoto/Articles/2131328/ist21706548ricecake-main_Full.jpg

I think you are in Indonesia, aren't you? When I lived in Asia (Thailand, Korea) I didn't ever see rice cakes, many other forms of soft cake made form rice, but never rice cakes like these.  I can't really think of anything comparable!  If you were able to find some rice crackers they might be good - the reason we tend to use these kinds of rice cakes are because they are easy to hold, and although they are hard at first because the rice is puffed up with air, they melt easily in your mouth and so are easy for a baby to eat.  The hardness is also good for LO to chew on with teething.

Hi Mashi, thanks for the info. We have many kind of baby biscuit & rusk ( but not rice cake ). He loves it so much, but I was just thinking about having a homemade finger food.

I remember in Japan they used to have these baby rice rusks  - do they have those where you are? You can give lots of fruit or cooked veg as finger foods. Rice balls?
