how long until breat milk production stops?

some of you may have seen on the temp board that I stopped feeding andrew after 2years 2 months about 2 and a bit weeks ago.  Definately bittersweet.

any ideas how long it should be until i stop producing.  i can still hand express a bit and get a good squirtful or two. :-X  i just want the milk to go, otherwise there is that temptation to just let andrew have a bit again, but since he's stopped asking, it would be a backwards move.

Well....I stopped at about 2 years with Sam, and I could still squirt out a bit up to 6 months later - haven't checked recently though!

Hugs on the bittersweet feelings, I hear you.

I had to stop BF earlier than you for medical reasons, so I was still feeding on a 3 hour sceduale.  I was quite engorged and still produced a lot for the first week. Then I did not need to pump any longer.  The feeling of milk let down and the dripping stopped a few weeks later.  I still was producing a little until 6-8 weeks after I stopped.

I BF my first until he was 2.5. Then I got pregnant 2 months later. I could still get drops of milk until I got pregnant. I think when you BF for a long time, your breasts will produce milk for a long time. In 6 months if you tried nursing you would probably re-lactate.

DS's weaning was bittersweet as well. I slowly weaned him over 2 months (down to one morning nursing)and then I had to go out of town for 2 weeks and that was it. When I came home he asked for num-nums and I said I didn't have anymore. He didn't ask again for a long time (until I got pregnant and my breasts got very large again, he would love to nurse now that DD is but I don't let him.) I cried after our last nursing. But he matured in many ways because he weaned.

You could try taking some herbal supplements that help diminish milk supply if you wanted.  Peppermint is supposed to do that.  Will get the other 2 or 3 from the LC's at work on Saturday.

I just want to follow along and see what everyone's experiences have been.  I nursed ds for 13 months and have been finished for about a month.  I am still producing a little still pretty lumpy.  Very frustrated.  I just want it to stop...  good news- no period yet!

I bfed O for 16 mths and still had a little milk like after a hot shower etc for about 4-5mths

I BF Masyn until 7 months and actually never stopped producing a bit of milk (in a hot shower like Shivi), then got pregnant 7 months later and here I am not having BF Spencer since Feb and still get a little in the bath or shower....so since I started lactating in about the 7 month of my pregnancy with Masyn and I still am now, it's been over 3 years and it's not dried up!
