Staying on EASY with short naps
« on: August 20, 2009, 04:11:49 am »
For a long time my dd took very short naps...anywhere from 20-40 minutes.  We finally got her on a good daytime routine using the EASY schedule at 7 months old and now her naps are closer to 1 hour to an hour and 15 minutes and she sleeps pretty good at night (we are still doing a df).  She is usually happy when she wakes up and is ready to play.  She is now 8 months.  This is a sample of her morning.

6:00 wake up
7:30 snack and wind down
around 8:00 nap
9:00 awake

When we first stared EASY, she was sleeping until 9:30 and then I would just wait 30 minutes to feed her and it was fine.  Now she wakes up at 9:00 and my question is should I feed her when she wakes up or wait until 10:00.  She can definitely last until 10:00, but it kind of throws the rest of the routine off.  For example

9:00 awake and activity time
10:00 bf or bottle
10:30 or 11:00ish wind down
11:00 or 11:30ish nap
12:30 awake & snack

Hi -

It actually looks like she's ready for more A time. Most 8 month olds are on just 2 naps per day, so this means they are awake for about 3hrs between naps. If you increase her A time a bit she may start taking longer naps and then the feeding will resolve itself. :)

I found this thread and I have a similiar problem with my 3 month old. For example, we are on a 7am-7pm EASY routine(or we try our best to be!) and it has looked like this so far today:

E: 7am
A: until 8am and started wind-down
S: 815am - 10am

E: 10am
A: only until 11am as he was tired and showed signs (according to my hubby)
S: 1105am - 1205pm (woke up for good!)

I tried until 1pm to get him back to sleep. I tried comforting him in his crib first, then I picked him up and rocked with him while humming to him, then we he started getting sleepy, I put him back and he woke again. I did my own version of shush/pat by turning him on his side and rubbing his back instead because he likes this better. He never went back to sleep so I fed him at 1pm

E: 1pm
A: only until 135pm
S: 145pm

My question is: if this happens, did I do the right thing or should I have just gotten him up after 20 mins or so of him not going back to sleep? I just wasn't sure!

Thanks,
April

I usually only tried for about 15/20min. Then again, my DD NEVER resettles. Unless she falls back asleep on her own after a minute or two, she's up for good. So, if you can resettle your DS you can perhaps try for longer, I just never had the patience for it! :D

Did it mess up your EASY routine too much because when he wakes early and I try to get him back to sleep, by the time I get him up for his next feed, he's already been awake for an hour so it kind of messes things up from there.
