Unless your LO has allergies, a little of a plain cake with a little icing won't hurt him

It was awhile ago, but I think I got the recipe for DS bday cake from this site......

http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/tipFirstBDay.htm

I wanted him to have his own cake to dig into and then have the 'real' cake for the guests. I think I made a whipped cream frosting from just plain whipping cream.

DS1 had cow's milk intolerance (fine now - no problems) and I made individual dairy free banana breads in those little foil molds (I used hearts) that are from reynolds (foil company).  You could top with whip cream.  We had a birthday brunch with family that I made these for, so they fit with the theme and everyone brought fruit, yogurt, etc. but you could do banana cake or banana bread in a sheet pan.  Don't all lo's like banana?

DS1 had ice cream cake and DS2 (being milk protein intolerant at the time) had a plain cake made with soy milk and soy margarine & iced with icing made with soy milk and soy margarine.

thanks so much everyone! DS doesn't have any allergies etc praise God, but I just figured that since one is so careful about sugar and salt the first 12 months it would be weird to bombard him with a full on cake suddenly. That website has lots of different recipes so I'll definitely look into those. Strangely enough my DS doesn't seem to care for bananas, I last tried 6 weeks ago I should probably try again anyway, he does eat a banana yogurt mind you.
anyway thanks again :)
