Toddler nursery rhymes
« on: August 23, 2009, 03:32:05 am »
I know this may sound silly. But my 21 month old boy wants me to sing him songs before bed. And the only song I know is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star! I end up singing it to him 10-15 times a night! Any suggestions for other songs that I might know?

How about:

baa baa black sheep
jack and jill went up the hill
little bo peep
this is the way we ... (add in go to bed/give mummy a kiss/say night night/go to sleep)
Happy and you know it (add in same as above)

The ones with the verses take ages so go with those!  Will keep thinking. All the other ones I'm coming up with are a bit too lively for bedtime!

I hum brahms lullaby the most b/c I don't have to think about words.  DH sings ABC song while changing diapers.  I looked up the words to "Puff the magic dragon" and "rainbow connection" before DS1 was born b/c I loved those songs as a child.  How about "you are my sunshine".  Maybe get a CD with some traditional songs and memorize them?

Look in bookstores for the Wee Sing series! The songs are great! I'm not a huge fan of the recordings, but they're not THAT bad and they'll give you an idea what the songs sound like if they're new to you and if you don't read music. :)

Also, I don't know if your library would have them, but ours have the Music Together CD's (and cassettes - they don't make cassettes any more) available for loan, and they are WONDERFUL!!!! :)
