Right - they might be able to help you at least get dairy-free or lactose-free SOMETHING.

I forget where in Germany you are now - are you close enough to any border to drive to another country without too long a drive and just BUY a carload one day every so often? It'd still be quicker and less expensive than going back home to get it.

Yes, that's what I mean when I say Netherlands run!  We are off of the NHS system in the UK and Nutramigen is only by prescription so can't get it from there anyway, even if we did go home.  I don't know if it is over the counter in Netherlands, was actually going to ping a PM to one of our BWs there to check for me...DH is debating going this weekend. The closest town from Wolfsburg is about 4hours by train (DH is determined we can survive here without a car  >:( ) so would be a weekend out of it.  Which I suppose isn't the END of the world.....

OK, if you want to practice your German reading, try this site for food allergy stuff: http://www.daab.de/all_nahrung.php. It's the Deutscher Allergie- und Asthmabund e.V. - Nahrungsmittel-Allergie.

And my friend says you can probably write them in English and still get help. :)

I'm looking at a map of Germany - I see why Netherlands. :) I wonder if they sell it in France? Anyone know? Can you post yourselves a case from the Netherlands maybe? ;D

Thanks for the link Deb.  Yes, VERY very likely that they will speak enough English to help me out.  When you ask people here if they speak English they generally tend to say "No, not really...." and then proceed to speak near fluent English to you anyway...!

Mash, you are really in a tough situation.  That must be so hard being in another country and having to figure this out.  I wanted to add, that even though you are against Neocate, they make drinks suitable for older children.  So your LO would be able to find a drink that tastes better and still get the necessary nutrition.  Maybe you could do that while you figure all of this out?  Especially since it seems accessible?

Back from the paed, and she wants me to keep with the hypoallergenic formula that has the lactose in it.  She said she does think that it is either him getting used to the lactose, which he's not had since he was 16 weeks old, and a general getting used to new formula that is doing it.

AND, he's had FOUR whole solid poops in the past 3 days!  A few runny watery ones, too, but four is four more than he'd had earlier this month!!!!

I also bit the bullet this morning and gave him a sippy cup with cow's milk in it.  Never going to know until I try.  He hated it, as he does anything new, but drank about an ounce over an hour and not a problem yet!  Fingers crossed that maybe all of this is an irrelevant thread and I can just get him onto MILK!!!!!

Thanks ladies!  He's been "drinking" cow's milk now all week - 2oz mixed with 6ox of the Althera formula, which he didn't like. So milk that he doesn't like mixed with formula he doesn't like.....bah!  He's down to about 5oz in the morning and at bedtime, just assuming it will go back up slowly as he gets used to the taste.

BUUUUUUT  who cares because he can have dairy!!! What a relief - Kelly, as you've said it makes life so much easier. I know you still have lots of food probs with James but I have fingers crossed that one day he will outgrow them also!!

James has actually outgrown his wheat allergy now which is great and he has actually started to eat more foods. He is not eating huge amounts but is getting better. We hope he will outgrow dairy and egg in the future also. I am so happy to hear that the introduction of dairy went so well and I am sure your ds will grow to like it soon.
