 Hey hun,

Did you manage to extend that A time this morning? How'd it go?

oops, sorry I haven't been back. We are still struggling, still messing with A times. I try around anywhere from 2.15-3.0 and still am getting the 38-45 minute nap. Hopefully we'll find the sweet spot soon :) After a bad nap though, I put  him down at the two hour mark to avoid OT. There have been a few days where we'll get a long nap during the day, but it appears totally random. I do the exact same thing, and we have different results every time....gah! He is turned 6mo old this week and I'v heard from others that it just started to click wit their child, hopefully it will with mine too :)

Hi, just wanted to put my 5 cents in. My DS#1 was a short napper from 3 months old till around 8 months (it started to get gradually better from 7 months). He was falling asleep independently in his crib, and then after 30 or 40 mins would be wide awake in a sec. No matter what I did  - playing with A times, helping him to sleep through by putting pressure on his joints, AP him to sleep longer (rocking him to sleep when he would awaken on his 40 mins mark, or letting him sleep on me) - and believe me, I did a LOT of that to avoid OT and night wakings - nothing helped.
So I guess what I am trying to say - hang in there, do not make yourself crazy over this, this is just developmental and will go away on its own.
In the meanwhile, try helping him to sleep through - W2S didn't work for me either, but modified W2S (going in there on 35 mins mark and holding him through the light sleep phase, for about 20 or 25 mins) did - he would sleep through and would continue to sleep for another 30 or 40 mins after I let go. I guess this teaches him to sleep through.

Sending you hugs, it is such a hard and frustrating time (I am also there with DS#2) but it will pass very quickly!
Inna

thanks for the encouraging words. I absolutely feel that this is developmental, and while we can try and make it better, sometimes it just doesn't work. I too have tried many of the ideas listed and nothing seems to be working. For a while, I was making myself crazy, and just today he had one two hour nap, and then a 40 minute nap. My heart sang on the 2hr and sank on the 40 minute. It literally can consume you, and I often feel like I'm shh/pat ing, pu/pd, W2S his infancy away.  I will not give up and hopefully will find something that works, but some days, a 40 minute nap is just part of our day, and I'm totally ok wit it. :)

you've got a great attitude and encouraged me!  My son is 3.5 mths old and has been consistently short napping 35 minutes for over a month now.  We've played around with the A times and it doesn't seem to make a difference, 35 minutes is all.  Our whole day/routine is all over the place and I feel like it HAS consumed me and I don't want it too.  But thanks for your attitude!  It helps!
