How many Bottles for a formula fed baby NOT on any solids yet?
« on: September 05, 2009, 02:49:50 am »
Can anyone give me an estimate on how many bottles and ounces of formula my almost 5 and half month old (4.5 mos adjusted) should be taking in a day?  I am trying to transition to a four hour feeding schedule and I am concerned about getting in all her ounces.  She was EBF till 4 mos and now is only on formula No solids or Cereal.  She has about 4 bottles @ about 7-8 ounces each.   She sleeps 7pm - 7am.  She is on the small side so I gotta make sure she is getting all her calories so I just wanted to know how many bottles any babies that are strictly on formula are taking.  We will discuss with Ped at the end of the month putting her on solids.  I am soo excited!

If she is still sleeping through on the amount of milk she is having then that is the right amount for her. There is no correct amount as it is whatever suits the particular baby.  My ds had 5 bottles from around 4 months up till 8 months (one was in the night though) - but they were more like 6-7oz each. He started solids at 5 1/2 months.

Hi yes she is a GREAT night sleeper and has been sleeping through 7pm-7am since 3 months so I will just keep doing what we are doing.  Thanks for your advice.   :D

Here is a thread that might help also!!  Like the others said though, there is a WIDE range for each child!!  My lo's were always BIG eaters!!

Thanks everyone!  We have consistently been on 4 bottles a day at 9 oz each! :o (for the last 4 days or so...) She feeds every four hours and we just switched to a faster nipple flow so we are doing pretty good.  I am superexcited to start cereal at the end of the month  ;D

Great news.

Just wanted to warn you that cereal can be constipating to some lo's so just keep an eye out when you introduce it.  Good luck.  Keep us posted  :-*
