11 week old arches back in the tub...why?
« on: September 11, 2009, 20:37:13 pm »
For a week now, my lo has been arching her back and straightening out her legs in the tub as if she is trying to lay down in the tub. Is this some type of developmental thing or is this just her being playful. I can't take my hand off her belly for one second without her trying to sneak this behavior in several times during bath times. At first is was hilarious but now I think it is a lil too stimulating for her before bedtime. IDK. Just wondering if anyone had experienced this.

Ah, I'm not the only one whose LO gets riled up by bath time...thank you for posting this!  I don't have any advice to offer, but I'd like to see what others say.  Hugs to you--and your DD is SO precious!

The only time my LO would do that strange arching is during a reflux flair up. She would also do it when she was held or sitting in a bouncy seat.  Humm...

I imagine its probably just experimenting.  Feels different being in the water and is just moving about.  We had to move bath time a bit earlier once it became too much fun as it was too stimulating before bed!

Okay, so as I was giving DS a bath tonight, he did exactly what you described...straightened his legs and arched his back.  He subsequently sunk down too far in the water and startled himself.  Silly kid :)  But he was splashing around when he did this.  So, like Shiv52 said, I think your LO is just learning how to play in the water and discovering how nice it is to be in the bath, sans clothing/diaper restrictions.  I'd say that she's just having fun :)

If you find that it hard to get her to wind down afterward, have you tried doing massage?  I find that helps my LO...er, when I remember to do it ::)

Good luck!  Slippery splashing babies are the best!

Yeah I think that is developmental.  It could also be the water temp...what's it like?
The tweaking never stops!
