13 mo with short 50 minute nap
« on: September 28, 2009, 18:32:12 pm »
My 13 mo is now takes one nap a day, unfortunately it is too short.  We got back from a vacation with a 3 hour time difference a few weeks ago and it has gotten worse.  She used to nap for 1 hour and 15 minutes, but now only naps for 55 minutes.  She goes to sleep on her own for her nap and at bedtime, but cries and cries if I try to have her take a 2nd nap.  She goes to bed around 6:45 and wakes up at 6:00 am.  Her is usually around 11 am.  She is a very light sleeper.  When she wakes up from the nap she stands up in her crib and starts to cry right away.  Should I just leave her in there and she if she will eventually go back to sleep?  I think she is pretty tired, but has never been a good/long sleeper.  Thanks!!!

13 months is pretty young to be on one nap, have you tried giving her a short (like 30 mins) nap at around 10.30 and then another nap in the afternoon?

She cries and cries if I try to put her down any earlier than 11.  Should I just wake her after 30?  I am worried that she still won't go to sleep for her 2nd nap.

It's got to be worth a try, no? You could do a 'proper' nap at 2.30. Even if the second nap is only an hour, it will still leave her with a shorter A time before bed.

:(  No luck.  I have tried this for several days and she still won't take a second nap so she is more tired than ever.  Any other suggestions?  Thank you for your help!!!!

I dunno, but she must be very overtired at this point. How about some early nights, and anything you can do (APOP) to extend that nap?

Ok.  She has been going to bed around 6:45, but I will start to push that up too.  I have tried the car and stroller, but haven't had luck yet.  I will keep trying. Thanks!

Looking back at your first post, she wakes at 6am? Honestly I would try to have her down for 5.30pm for a few days, and see if that helps. At this point, it reads that she is having only about 11.5-12 hours sleep in 24, I'm thinking she needs more like 15 hours. So anything you can do (including insanely early bedtimes) is probably going to help.
