8 month old suddenly resisting PM nap.
« on: September 30, 2009, 21:09:54 pm »
I have an 8 month DD who follows the following day (generally). This is today so far plus anticipated PM

6:20 Wake up/Eat
A
E Breakfast around 8ish
A
S 9:20 - 10:50 (but usually 2 hrs)

E 10:50
A
E Lunch around 1ish
A
S 1:50 (I started at 2:05 today and she fought it till 2:45. This is the second day in a row this has happened)

E 3:50 (probably will wake 4:45 if takes usual 2 hr nap but may wake sooner b/c so upset when falling asleep)
A
E Dinner solids around 5:30
A Usually around 6:30 Bath, jammies, snuggles
E 6:50 Final BF
S 7 Usually falls asleep nursing but sometimes awake and then sing her 'sleepy' song and put her down

DF 10ish

One wake up at night, normally anywhere between 2 and 3:30 am. I nurse her.

So we have been working on a 3 hr A time for a while and she seems to have been quite happy with that but for some reason she is taking a shorter AM nap, is then cranky for her second A time but also refuses to fall asleep for her second nap after 3 hrs. So I am wondering what to do here. She is always ready for her AM nap and falls asleep immediately without a fuss.

I don't know if she is developing a touch of SA b/c this weekend she woke from her nap and had to cry really loud before my husband finally heard her. She has been difficult ever since then. Also, a couple of times I haven't been home when she has woken up so either my husband or my mother (who is a new person to her) has been getting her up.

She is teething and I give tylenol before naps and bed and redose at night.

She recently learned to roll (about two weeks ago) and, until the past two days, this hasn't affected her sleep.

I am reaching out b/c I know once something happens twice with tjem you have to nip it in the bud. So far, yesterday when she fought her nap I picked her up, fed her some water in another room and tried again and she was fine. This time i picked her up, put her down and sang twinkle twinkle and ended up having to sit with her on the chair and do her whole nap routine over again and then finally she fell asleep but it was horrible. She was crying realy tears which is so unlike her. She rarely cries at all so I don't know what to do.

Is her A time right? How should I deal with nap resistance? PUPD?

Thanks!

Hi there,  I wouldnt let her sleep past 1.5 hours for each nap as they only need about 2.5-3 hours day sleep total before it starts to affect their night sleep.

the first A time seems ok, i think after a 1.5 hour nap she could handle 3 hours fine but after 2 hours sleep she could probably handle a bit more and thats why she is fighting going to sleep for her second nap.

Thanks!

Yesterday and the day before that it wasn't as difficult to put her down and she had naturally taken a shorter morning nap so I wonder if that was the issue. I remember my son used to take two 1.5 hr naps at this age but she has been soooo different from him vis a vis sleep that I hadn't stopped to think about that. She has been 100 times more sleepy than he was so I usually just let her get her rest.

Thanks so much!
