struggling with pm nap again
« on: October 05, 2009, 14:46:41 pm »
Hi,
My DS is 11 months and I am pretty sure we have started the 2:1 switch. He is v spirited and so if I get the A times wrong he can absolutely go wild! Today he managed to get his sleeping bag off he was so mad after I put him down and then was just screaming and trying to fight me at which point i just gave up and got him out of the bed. Once he had calmed down 10 mins later he went off no problem. Before he was ill he was doing about 4 hours first A and then 4 hours second if he had a good i.e. 1.20 or more nap. If he did an hour we were putting him down after around 3.40 and generally it was working.
He is now back to normal after his cold and has been doing around 4 hours A in the am and this gets us anywhere from 1-1.5 hours usually. Then I really do not have a clue tbh.
Today he gave a few tired signs after 2.5 hours but I think that was due to having had an active am and then getting in the car. I tried to put him down after 3.40 which was I am guessing too soon although probably not THAT much too soon as he did go down.
Help!!! We are aiming for long am, short pm at the moment but I need to address this screaming as it is breaking my heart and I just feel oike the worst mum ever. I can't do this every day.

Becky: sending you a hug. I will be following along.  My lo normally sleeps from 11-1pm and is still not refusing her pm nap. I will be following along as I am sure she will begin to refuse it soon.

goodness - he has done a 2 hour nap about 10 times in his entire life! :)
What is your A time from first to second nap?

so today I lengthened the second A time to 4 hours and this was after a 1.15 nap and we had the same problems. Do I still need to keep him up longer?

We are in the same boat.  If I let DS sleep any longer than 30 minutes in the am, we get pm nap refusal.  I'm trying to adjust though to waking him after 30 minutes.  It is so hard that I've been letting him sleep 1-1.5 hours, and then of course getting problems in the afternoon.

If I wake him after 30 minutes, he can easily go 3.5 hours before having a 2 hour nap!

hmmm. That would be so perfect but DS has never been a good pm napper. Having said that today he only napped for 35 mins in the am and then did 1.5 hours later so maybe it would work. Thanks for the advice - so hard isn't it!
