where to put down for naps
« on: October 16, 2009, 09:34:05 am »
My LO is 5 weeks old and i was wondering when i should start putting him in his room, in his cot, for day time naps.  At the moment he goes down in his carry cot in he living-room.  At night he goes down in his amby hammock in our bedroom. The only time he goes in his cot is during the first activity time of the day so i can get washed and  dressed.  We always change his nappy, and get him dressed in his room.

Thanks

I would recommend putting him in his own room in his cot right away.  It is easier for you if you don't have to tip toe around the house and it is likely more comfortable for him without all of the extra noise.  He will then get used to being in his room from the beginning which will save you transition problems later.

I initially started my little guy in the same bed he slept at night in, a co-sleeper by our bed.  I kept him in our room for daytime naps until he was about 2 months old then I started putting him in his crib for daytime and kept him in his co-sleeper in our room for nights.  By 3.5 months or so I moved him to his crib for night time too.

It was a little tougher for me to have to get up to breastfeed him, but we found that it was much less disruptive for DH that way since I had to wake up anyway so we stuck with it.  It seemed to work well.  I would just get him used to being whereever you want him to be eventually so it is not so stressful for him when the time comes.  Just make it comfortable and inviting for him and you should be fine!
