Maybe he needs a slightly shorter A time before his first nap - it's very common for the first A to need to be shorter than the others. Maybe tomorrow you could try a 2.5 or 2.75hr A time there. (((hugs))) I hope you can get him caught up on sleep today.

well, after a very busy 2.5 hours of A time I managed to catch Caleb on the first yawn and he is now in bed. I'm hoping he'll be able to catch up on his sleep. I'll keep you posted...

1.5hrs of sleep time...better than 30 min! He seems in good spirits. I'm still aiming for the early bedtime.
Just curious...is there ever a time when all the days are the same?!

I think it gradually gets more and more stable as they get older. Of course with big blips! Since 15 months I can definitely report that nearly all of our days are the same

Well Caleb had another early night...he was asleep by 6:15pm. He slept until 3am (which is an hour earlier than the previous NW) and was awake until 4am and then awake for the day around 6:30am. Although, I suspect he was awake earlier than that because by 8:30am he was READY for a nap. I sure hope he can catch up on his sleep today!!
If a baby sleeps more than 3hours (or so) in a day, does it impact their night sleep- even if their A time is super busy?

No, not at this age. If he was having very short A times and very long naps, then maybe, but at this age too much daytime sleep is rarely an issue. In fact, 2 x 2hr naps would be a great day!

a 1.5 hr nap this morning followed by 3.5hrs of A time. And almost a 1.5hr nap this afternoon. I wish I could get even 45min more in the afternoon so he wouldn't have to go to bed at 6pm!

a great nap day down the crapper...
I guess I waited too long for bedtime. caleb was up at 1am and 5am and 6am to start the day! back to square one. At least I know what to expect (sort of!) and will continue with the string of early bedtimes.
Thank you so much for your support! Being able to talk this through with someone and get ideas is so helpful and useful. I'm glad I found this board (and Tracy's books!)
I'm happy to have found the BW program!! yay!!

It's only 10:30am here and caleb is already on his second nap of the day :S
He woke up at 5am and then we were up for the day at 6am (after some heavy duty screaming and 2 failed attempts at pu/pd). He slept from 7:30-8:30am and here we are 2 hrs later and his eyes are closing. At least the weekend is coming and hubby will be around. It's exhausting dealing with an exhausted baby!!
Is a day full of cat naps a bad idea?

It's not the best, but short naps are better than no naps! ((((hugs)))) for the EW, we had one of those today too.
