A few sleep questions
« on: October 22, 2009, 01:13:13 am »
Hello, I am new to the BW forum.  I have a 9 week old and we are working on sleep issues.  He is completely BF at the moment. He is only sleeping about every 3 hours.  I have 2 questions and would love any suggestions and advice from the BW community.  I would like to start giving a bottle at the 10:30/11pm wake up so I could make sure he drinks enough to last him longer than 3 hours, but I have tried for the past 2 nights and he is refusing to take the bottle, getting all flustered and upset and then not able to wind back down. I am also confused on how to shh pat if the baby is on his back?  I am swaddling and putting him on his side in the First Years' Sleep Positioner.  He sometimes moves so much that I worry about having the positioner in the bed and would prefer he just be on his back with nothing else but the swaddle.  He seems uncomfortable at times on his side, throwing his head back and all around.

My LO also seems to have gas pains in the night and wakes up crying.. any suggestions on helping to put him back to sleep would be so helpful to me, as I am exhausted.

I would love to know how you all put your LOs to sleep, in a positioner on their side?

Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi and welcome  :-*

Here is a link to help you with the technique of shh/pat http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=26672.0.  It can take some time for a LO to get used to it, so give it some time.  I don't have any experience with BF and introducing a bottle but I would imagine that if he is exclusively BF this can take some time to get used to.

Here is a link to the colic and reflux board , maybe you want to pop over there http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?board=13.0.

So I decided to take the positioner out of the bassinet and put DS in the crib, swaddled on his back. It took a few days but he is definitely learning to sleep in it.  I have to go back a few times to shh/pat but it seems to be working.  We are on no schedule except for bedtime but hoping to get a 4 hour EASY going.
