Tanking up while having an oversupply issue
« on: October 23, 2009, 21:06:51 pm »
I am trying to fix my oversupply problems and have been block nursing. Is it advisable to start tanking up?  She is almost 6 weeks old and was born one month early and currently weighs almost 11 lbs. Should I wait until the oversupply issue is fixed?

Hi Zoanaki :)

Other than block nursing, how are you trying to fix your oversupply?  Here are a couple pages with some tips that you might find helpful:

How many feeds are you doing through the night?  Could you post what a typical 24 hours looks like?

If block nursing is working well for you and your dd, I don't see why you couldn't begin tanking up while doing it.  How long do you use one breast before switching to the other?  Could you clusterfeed using one breast a couple times, then offer the next breast at the bedtime feed?  (does that make sense?)

You may find to that she's demanding food a lot more lately.  There is a huge growth spurt at 6 weeks, and it may seem that she wants to nurse all the time.  Here's some more information on that for you:  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=66001.0
